I really like the new spacer posts for comment topics in version 8 but not sure what it is that I am missing to make them work.

They work great experimenting with a fresh install on my local host but all the sites I have upgraded live are still using the old spacer posts.

I don't think it is custom templates blocking them because the same themes that they work with on my local host they do not when I install them on the live sites? They don't work with the default theme on the sites I have upgraded ether.

It likely is not retroactive for old posts. Is it happening for new posts?

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Looks like another 'goodie' that I've missed. Must be an override, huh?

 :o

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Thanks for the reply Chris.

I will be adding new content to my site later today so I will report back on that after I do.

No luck, old spacer posts are being used for new content as well. Even when using the default theme.

Now I'm intrigued.

What are we discussing here, Brian? Have you got a visual example? Does it need to be downloaded? Does it need to be triggered by OcCLE?

Sorry for the questions, but I've obviously missed something!

Questions are good Fletch, I don't mind at all :)

I am referring to spacer posts for website comment topics.

The old spacer posts looked like this.

New ones on fresh installs look much nicer with a short description and a thumbnail of attached photos if available.

They work great on fresh installs as default but none of the sites I have upgraded are using them.

Thanks Brian.

Pictures … 1000 words … says it all.

My forum posts are showing the new display, BUT, not the spacer post, AND, the posts have to be in threaded view it appears.

OK, I'm satisfied that I didn't completely miss the plot.

Good catch, Fletch. I just changed my website comments forum to default to threaded view which is probably more appropriate for this particular forum area.

Yeah, Fletch got it. There's a bug on the non-threaded view. The threaded view is the default for this forum for new installs.
