Hi everyone,

After upgrading to 4.1.2 my site has slowed down quite a bit, pages take days to load, and I lost access to adminzone/setup/configuration/site options. Turns out this error after a while:
edit: all other links in adminzone/setup/configuration/ work fine

Error said

Expand: It's a bit long… It's a bit long…

Also, validation emails after members have joined are not sent.

Now a few questions…

1) How can I delete the existing custom fields ? (namely every thing related to the points system).

2) Is it possible to add custom fields to the join screen ?

3) Chose single zone from setup wizzard, but have both "welcome" and "site" links in the zone menu. How do I get rid of one ? (and which one should I kill ?)

4) Still find points: 40 left in profile and various places like the features menu of personal zone. Is there a way to just get rid of all these in one go ?

That's a lot of questions  :$ …… but I don't post very often

Have a nice week ;)

I got some problems too with loading pages (reffering to the */adminzone/index.php?page=admin_pointstore&type=p)

It does load, but not compleet, I only see white page with some text and 3 links which do lead to the same
url.

I use the recommand.htaccess. It did work before.

One of my members is complaining that the forum is slower than before, but I don't have any problems with it.

LO Boomerirc ;)

I use recommended.htaccess too, and it was also ok before.

Page loading, not complete, all white, had it also, the second or third time. Since then, I just get the error I posted.

Not too worried, though, I know the wizzard will fix it  :P

Question answers first…

1) Some of these are locked and can't be removed, but hopefully the answer to '4' will sort things out for you. For the ones not locked go to: Admin Zone, Setup section, Custom Profile Fields, Edit Custom Profile Field, <choose one>, <choose to delete>, <save>.

2) As above but you're adding a cpf. Making it required will make it show on the join screen.

3) Go to: Admin Zone, Structure section, Zones, choose to edit the welcome zone. There's an option in there to not have it show on the menu.

4) v4 is more modular than v3. What you need to do is uninstall the 'points' addon. Go to: Admin Zone, Setup section, Addons, and then you can remove what you don't want.

Now, on to the slowness. I think the error message comes from slowness rather than it being the cause. It's another symptom. I don't know why this latest patch release would be slow though, and it could be a coincidence. Nevertheless if either of you still have the problem happening on a specific screen I am happy to investigate for you. I'll need server access to run some tests, so mail FTP details to chris@ocportal.com.

I get an error when I click on the addons button in adminzone/setup :
This is the url called by the addons button: http:// ***.fr/adminzone/index.php?page=admin_addons&type=misc

Silly question of the day: which tar file is it trying to call ?  :$

About the slow down/white pages.

I have two different servers where I have site's on, but on 1 it works fine and the other
gives just a white page with some letters.

I use the same .htaccess on all 2 site's.

The attachment is from the site that doesn't show correctly.
Attachment
» Download: language.txt (15 Kb, 387 downloads so far)

it doesn't cache any files of the pages (langauge page: adminzone/index.php?page=admin_lang&type=misc)

Did a clear cache on my other hosting (where it did work) but after that it doesn't work anymore.
I did another check, with &keep_lang=EN and then it works just fine. The problem seems to be in the custom_lang files (I guess)

It'll be one of the files in imports/mods.

The attached two files (for sources directory) will make the system smart enough to ignore corrupt files in the above directory (we'll include these two files in the next patch release).

Thanks. I'm still happy to look into it, but it's very unlikely I'll be able to reproduce without access to an affected server.

Hi,

I got them thanks. I was able to connect, but it looks like your server has gone down. I'm not able to connect now from my computer or from our server.
I'll be patient though :).

Hi,

I'm in, but I haven't seen the problem yet.
Could you tell me a sequence of steps that will allow me to reproduce it on your site?

Hi,

Don't worry I'm in (I can do that via FTP). But I went to the language screen and it was ok, and tried a few cache emptying combinations, and was still ok. I'm sure there's a way to trigger it just I'll need a little help :).

Chris use the &keep_lang=NL that would trigger it, because it works just fine under the EN language

Thanks. The problem was somewhat intermittent as it depended on the server load. It didn't happen last night, presumably because the server had just come back and any prior active users has stopped using it at that point.

It should now be fixed on your server, and the fix will be in the next patch release, due out soon.

It was devilishly complex. For my own records, here is what the problem was:

Code

Two minor performance issues are accentuated by two levels of loop nesting, the fact admin_lang requires all language files, and further accentuated by auto-cache clearance.
Problem only happens when not using English on a none-fully-translated language, as performance issues are in the language fallback mechanism.

[when refreshing browser, auto-clears language cache]   **0
Require all language files  **1
Lookup language strings used on page LOOP
Finds that language string not defined for current language
Re-require all language files for current languages - those not loaded will reload LOOP   **1
Searches for cache file can not find
Searches for .ini file can not find
      Falls back to English
*Forgets to copy English cache file to current language cache file* (which would give small performance improvement)
*Forgets to mark that we've at least tried to load language file for current file* (which would give small performance improvement)

**0
Accentuates problem when debugging, clicking refresh

**1
Accentuates on admin_lang string due to it requiring all language files not just some

This exhausted memory thing happened on several other occasions, involving various ***.php files, usually in sources/ and on two or three occasions it was sources/symbols.php (error on line 12 if I remember right).

Otherwise, pages take between 12 and 30 seconds to load (which is just a no-go and makes working on the site virtually impossible).
Adding a new block on the side panel will not save, have to edit the side panel page on the server. (I remember the same happened when V3 was launched, after installing a second language).
Most of the problems seem to be related to having a second language installed.

All this to say…. I'm very much interested in whatever you did to get boomerirc's site going  :christmas:

edit: Forgot, keep_lang has no impact on result. Translation incomplete here also.
