Getting error in install step 4

Hello guys I'm new to this portal and find its features absolutely amazing. I'm trying to do a manual install and have set all the file permissions, but when I reach step 4 in the installation it comes up with the error below. I would really like some help with this. I have tried the automatic installation, but it gave me the same error.

An error has occurred

PHP [8] Undefined variable: ftp_username

Here is the stack trace:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_value() in /mounted-storage/home54a/sub009/sc36137-ZXMQ/my.domain/sourc
es/symbols.php
on line 498

Hi Syrling,

You've found quite a strange bug that is affecting your server. Is it alright if I ask you to make a manual file edit?

A line of install.php needs changing from:

Code

      if ($u_info!==false) $ftp_username=$u_info['name'];
to:

Code

      if ($u_info!==false) $ftp_username=$u_info['name']; else $ftp_username='';

You can make the change using a search-and-replace if you like as the line only appears once in the file.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Fantastic Chris.
I did the edit and the install went smooth. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get into setting up this portal
