Is this possible or even advised?I have downloaded this software a few days ago and have been toying with it some, and am thinking about replacing my install of mkportal with it. However, I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer. Is there a method to convert from AEF to OCF? Unfortunatly AEF has many issues that they don't plan to fix in the foreseeable feature, and I have also read that matching themes with other forums isn't such a fun task. So I am thinking that should I go with ocportal, it might be better to use ocforums. Please forgive me and move if I posted this in the wrong area. Also I did search, but if I missed a topic already discussing this please kindly point me to it. On an unrelated note, since this is my first post here, this software looks quite interesting. Somewhat confusing as it's not quite like what I've used in the past (and I have used alot of CMS's in the past….) but looks like a very nice cms/portal software. Seems lacking in the theme department. Now I would be sold in a heartbeat if I found a good fantasy/dark fantasy theme as my site I am considering using this on is a dark fantasy rp. But yeah, anyways thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, we do have an importer for AEF. After installing ocPortal, go to Adminzone > Tools > Import. Also, have you looked at the theme wizard? You can tell it which color scheme you'd like and it will generate a theme from that. |

I am going to try that importer thing out on my test board before using it on my real site. And yeah, I played with the theme wizard. It's a pretty nifty tool. Just gotta add in some fantasy images and styling and I'd be all set lol.

I feel like an idiot cause now I get a new error and I can't seem to get this myself…. I would have just edited this on my last reply, but it's been a little while, and I'd hate for it to be missed. Am I the only one having so much trouble even trying to see if this works….. Search turns up nothing…. Anyways, I have been trying to do this and tried several times, but I keep getting stuck with this error…
*sigh*.. maybe I should just give up on trying to convert… I hate having to bother with so many questions… Edit: Man, I just discovered the possibilities of the Catalog system! Heck no.. I am sticking with it. Surely once I get my head around this this stuff will be simpler. But that has just made a ocPortal convert out of me. So yeah, I'll wait for some help on figuring out this importer. Once I have got it all under my belt I am gonna convert my active board. Been learning the ropes and how to convert on my test board…

Thanks for reporting that error. This looks like a bug. We designed the importer to be a very straight-forward process, so if you get a strange error it is likely a bug, so thank you for reporting it. |

The AEF importer has been out for a very short period of time. I think you're actually the first person to use it, besides Allen, and the programmer.
Don't worry at all. As this is new, we'll get you on an instant messenger or something to help you through if you get any more problems. I'm going to look into this group error now and see if I can spot a potential cause. I think the problem is coming up when importing the forums (as opposed to the members)? I think this will fix it: I think it's happening as you have some slightly corrupt data in your aef_forum_permissions table (permissions against a usergroup that doesn't exist). This kind of thing could have been caused by a little bug in aef, but one largely irrelevant and unnoticeable under normal circumstances. This kind of problem is quite normal when we are developing a new importer - the first few real-world sites to import having some weirdness, and eventually the kinks get worked out. However this error came up again after using your patch. I think it has something to do with the member groups. For fun, here's the error again…
Group does seem to match the db call for membergroups in AEF. If you want, I can get you a database file of AEF to toy with or whatever, if that will help. If you want to contact me via IM, that is fine. Yahoo!: lord_mythus MSN: the_scrollkeeper@yahoo.com AIM: Norovia It's a good thing I'm trying this out on a test board then diving in with my live site lol. Otherwise I'd have some upset members. Don't worry, I am sticking with this. That catalogue feature of yours is just too wonderful. And btw- thanks for working on this for me.

Working with a dump should be easiest. I need to test this myself anyway, so if you could send to me at chris@ocportal.com I'll try it out myself. It looks like you may have a member in a non-existent group, as there were only two places in the importer where 'group' is used. But I'll find out and fix it. I am most impressed seeing the admin and developer so quick to help me with this. Very impressive, and nice to see. I sent out the email with a database dump. Let me know if you need anything else.
