I'm getting the following error when attempting to upload or use URL to add a banner:

Code

Cannot connect to the server in the URL, http://xxxxx.com/xxxxx.com.2009/uploads/banners/468x60_web_banner_example_6.gif.
I have made no changes with regards to banners from the default install and permissions on the directories are:

Code

drwxr-xr-x 21 nobody nogroup 4096 2009-02-03 08:37 uploads/
drwxr-xr-x  2 nobody nogroup 4096 2009-02-19 09:05 banners/
-rw-r--r--  1 nobody nobody  52174 2009-02-19 09:05 468x60_web_banner_example_6.gif
I can view the banner using the above URL directly, but after the error, no banners are listed. Apache is running as the user nobody on this server.

Thoughts?
TIA!

Is it a real URL? From that URL it looks to me like you might have made up a domain name using the hosts file. If this is the case, the server would need the same change (even then I'm not 100% confident it would work though).

Yes, 'tiz real URL, I just xxxx'd out the details. I can take the URL and pump it into the address bar and view the banner image AOK. Problem seems to lie with the completion of the upload/banner recording routine. In case it helps, the error does not appear for at least 1.5 minutes from submit.

P.S. If this is something you haven't seen before Chris, don't worry about it at this point. I'm not 100% satisfied with this server and the site will be moving to a new one with different OS prior to going live. I'll update the post if the issue persists on the new box. I have had no issues whatsoever with OCP banners in the past, so there is a strong possibility that this server is being a dork.

A simple test is to log in to the server, and run:

Code

wget <url>
and see what happens.

(assuming it's a Linux/BSD/Mac server).

Good call Chris! The server can't connect to itself via global IP (which the domain resolves to). No problems if I substitute the internal addy:

Code

root@www:~# wget http://10.1.1.4/xxxxx.com.2009/uploads/banners/468x60_web_banner_example_6.gif
--13:16:54--  http://10.1.1.4/xxxxx.com.2009/uploads/banners/468x60_web_banner_example_6.gif
           => `468x60_web_banner_example_6.gif'
Connecting to 10.1.1.4:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 52,174 (51K) [image/gif]

100%[========================================================================================>] 52,174        --.--K/s

13:16:54 (9.12 MB/s) - `468x60_web_banner_example_6.gif' saved [52174/52174]
I imagine it's our firewall blocking this. I don't have this problem with my server which is located in the same rack as this one, however, I have a global IP tunneled through for mine whereas this one is natted. Couple of keystrokes in /etc/hosts and I'm off to the races.

Thanx for the clue!

One final query if I may: is the max banner size hardcoded as well? I can't seem to find a setting in configuration for the size.

Hi,

There's actually an option buried in the configuration for this firewall situation, but as you've solved already, that's good.

Banner size can be changed by editing a banner type.
