Issue in 7.1 Beta 1

In the Site Options
( Home » Admin Zone » Setup » Configuration » Site options )

I have defined the Site Name, but when viewing the source of the homepage (start.htm), it returns a meta description of
<meta name="description" content="Welcome to {$SITE_NAME*} ------------------------" />
Other pages in the site return the Description field from Site options. Is this behaviour standard?

The automatic summariser isn't looking at Tempcode. This will change that. You will need to edit the start page and wipe the meta description out and let it regenerate.

Thanks for the response Chris, I've ftp'd the attached file to sources/mail.php, but I cannot find where to "edit the start page".

I've looked at the start page which starts with the <h1> tag, but the META comes way before this.

The metadata is in HEADER.tpl.

I've taken out the META description from HEADERS.tpl and cleared all the caches and now I have no decriptions for any pages on the site.

How does the system regenerate the entry?

I could be wrong but I think Chris meant clear the description on the page itself, not in the template.

Near the bottom of every page is a link to edit it. In there you can manually edit the description and keys words when editing a page. Then when you saved it again it would re populate that area properly.

Okay, I have reinstated the following line in HEADERS.tpl which I had commented out :
 <meta name="description" content="{+START,IF,{$NEQ,{DESCRIPTION},{!NA}}}{DESCRIPTION*{+END}" />
I then Saved and refreshed the homepage and this reappeared in View Source :
 <meta name="description" content="Welcome to {$SITE_NAME*} ------------------------" />

Getting frustrated with this now, as I'm encountering other strange behaviour with RSS feeds which I'll raise under a new thread.

Edit the page, expand 'Search Engine Optimisation, and Tagging', change/empty the description there.

Chris,

That's it! Under SEO it shows
Concise description :
Welcome to {$SITE_NAME*} ————————

So, delete the entry in Concise Description, reinstate the META in HEADERS.tpl and it now uses the description META correctly.

The Concise Description is an override to this.

Thanks to all that assisted
