The site was working fine and now its not. I hit control N to open a new window. I hadn't even logged in yet to manipulate the site and now I get an error.

http://www.ourussvoyager.com/portal/

I visited the site, i twas fine.. I hit control N and now this error. I even cleared my cache and restarted my computer. I really like this portal software, but I am concerned because it seems to be quite tempermental.

I clicked admin zone and this is the error I get:
PHP NOTICE [8] Undefined offset: 0 (ocPortal version: 3.0.12, PHP version: 4.4.4, URL: /portal/adminzone/index.php?page=)

By error do you mean "The requested resource does not exist"? This is caused by the Comcode page (start in this case) not being found, either because it can't be accessed, or because you've deleted it.

If we're to do anything with the adminzone error you received, we'll need the full stack trace. Feel free to blank out any personal details, and remember to put it in a [code] tag.

Thats the thing.. I didn't delete anything.. I hadn't even logged in yet. It was all there.. then I hit control N to open a new window... went back to log in and boom it was gone.

PHP NOTICE [8] Undefined offset: 0 (ocPortal version: 3.0.12, PHP version: 4.4.4, URL: /portal/adminzone/index.php?page=start)

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state ocPortal was in when the error occured. If this represents a bug in ocPortal's unmodified software, you may want to check ocportal.com for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, the human situation, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and hope you will work with us so that we can fix it promptly. {|

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

That repaired the admin problem, thank you, but the index page is still not working.

Another possible cause for the front page error would be if the default page for the root zone had been changed to something inappropriate. Off-hand, I can't think what exactly it could be changed to do it, but if there's a module page that requires some resource to exist, and it doesn't, and the default page was set to be that page – you'd get an error like this.

I don't understand what you mean. I haven't changed the name of any of the files. I did remove the ability to have an award, that caused that error.. but that error was fixed with the fix you suggested.

Could you see if /pages/comcode/EN/start.txt or /pages/comcode_custom/EN/start.txt exist in FTP?

You're using the awards block on your start page but you deleted the award you were using. This is the cause of the error. You may edit the front page ('start') via the Admin Zone (the Site Tree editor will provide a link, or you can use the Comcode Pages icon in the CMS zone). Just edit the page to remove the usage of the main_awards block.

This is almost a bug in ocPortal though, as our quality standards say ocPortal blocks shouldn't fail like this. It'll be fixed in the next patch release.

That worked, thank you. My last question (hopefully) is how do I create a new RSS Block?  I will be making a donation this weekend due to all of the help you guys have provided!

When you edit a page (like you did earlier) there's an 'Add block' button. There's a long list of block types and one is for RSS (It's "Main RSS" or something like that).
