After editing language strings site no longer responds

Hi all

While editing language strings froù the option at the foot of the screen, I obviously did something wrong.

When I connect to my site nothing displays.

I tried looking for log files....with no joy.

Is the a way to force  myself in? to find out what went wrong?

Thanks in advance

Gary

You can access your site in safe mode (disables all custom files) by appending a ?keep_safe_mode=1 or a &keep_safe_mode=1 to your web site url in your browser address bar. Any language string changes you made should show up as a new custom file in one of the language directories under the lang_custom directory. Look in those directories for the files with the most recent timestamps from when you were making the changes and examine them for errors or move them somewhere else so ocPortal doesn't try to load them. You may also need to clear the ocPortal caches if something bad got into the caches. You can do that by loading up the ocPortal upgrader script (<yourwebsitedomain>/upgrader.php in your browser address bar) and click the 'Clear caches' button.

If you want to open a free support ticket with FTP login details, I'll try and take a look tomorrow.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
