Wondering if there's a way to do this…

At the moment I have a link to news articles by category in a left side block. When a user selects a category, it open a page to that category and displays any articles submitted, but no where on the page or on the article itself is a mention of the category the article belongs to.

The reason I find it desirable to show the news category as a header or attached to the article itself is to prevent users from inadvertently selecting a different news category than they intended, by helping to serve as a visual reminder that the user is in the category they intended to select.

Is there a way to obtain this effect or a relevant tutorial that explains such a concept?

Thanks again for the many useful tips.

Hi,

You're right - v3 doesn't do this. However, v4 will show a list of the categories a news entry is in when you view it.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

ok think I just answered my own question…build a comcode page for each news category and use the news category as an insertion point for that page.

Here goes! :)
