During Setup Wizard

I run thru the Setup Wizard, but the settings are not taking after I'm done. Could it be a permissions issue with a config file or something?

Hi,

This usually happens if you're behind some kind of cache. This said, it is very rare. ocPortal follows standards methods of stating it's dynamic web pages shouldn't be cached, but some web systems (e.g. ISPs) don't follow these and cache stuff anyway. The result is that changes made do not appear to come through, because you're seeing old versions of the page. One potential way around this is to hold down ctrl+alt+shift and click the refresh button in the web browser; this should tell any caches to empty themselves (including the one in your web browser, and between your computer and the server, and ocPortal's own caches).

Also please check that:
  • you reached the message at the end of the Setup Wizard (changes are only applied at the end)
  • you're clicking 'Proceed' rather than 'Skip'.
  • that it isn't just one aspect of the site (e.g. the colour scheme) that isn't being changed.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Chris,

Only way to invoke the changes was to edit the page, and then save the changes. The page code was showing correctly. Even refreshing the cache didn't do it.

Very weird.
