I guess I don't understand.

Hello,I'm setting up a website that will have both national and regional content. I thought using clubs for this would be the answer. I want all the users to have access site wide, plus easy access to the data for their specific state.

I thought the best option for my situation is to use clubs, and create a club for each state. Am I mistken on how clubs work? I thought each club would have its own home page of sorts, which I could populate with specific data pertaining to that state, as well as auto generate a forum, under the forum I defined in setup/configuration/member forum options. Am I totally off on this?

Secondly, when I try to add a club from the content zone, I get the message:

Code

An error has occurred
A category (0) that doesn't exist is being referenced

However, when I look in the edit club menu the club is listed, but I see no forum for the club has been created under the forum I defined in setup/configuration/member-forum options.

If I go to usergroups and create a usergroup called Alabama, and then try to create club called Alabama I get the message:

Code

One of these called Alabama already exist.

Can someone please explain this process and clubs to me?

Hi,

The attached cms/pages/modules/cms_ocf_groups.php file should fix the problem you've had creating a club (the error message, and fact the forum didn't get auto-created). You may wish to delete the club you tested with and recreate. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Clubs are implemented via usergroups, so it's correct it didn't allow you to create a usergroup of the same name.

Clubs don't come with their own page, but you could pin a topic in their forum or just create a page and link to it from somewhere.

Just noticed from an error mail that there is an error in the file I sent - it's not quite compatible with your version. Give me a minute.

Well I've done it now.  I copied the attached file in to my  cms/pages/modules directory and now have an error message:

Code

An error has occurred
A source code file is missing: ocf_groups_action2 (or an overridden equivalent to
this path) (version: 4.1.5, PHP version: 5.2.6, URL: /cms/index.php?page=cms_ocf_groups&type=misc)
Here is the stack trace:
Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred.
If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal
website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that
merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the
stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still
need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version
numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so
that we can fix it for you promptly.

Fixed file attached. Before I attached a file for the next patch release, which has some restructuring that I forgot about.

No, but we'll consider that suggestion for the future.

Yes, it would seem so. I replied to your topic about this so you might want to check my reply – I'm not sure why it didn't work though.

Two more quick questions on clubs and I'll let this horse die.

I created the club Alabama, and the patched script preformed beautifully. It created the usergroup, and the club's , Alabama, forum, and indeed anyone can join. Isn't there a way though non-club members can view the forum?

Lastly, in the personal block is shows the user's primary usergroup, can you show they're secondary usergroup?

Hi,

I think you'll be able to tweak the forums permissions. By default, it's limited only to club members.

Secondary usergroups can't be shown in the personal block but we'll consider this for the future.

Gotcha.  I was just a little fuzzy on the way the club concept is implemented.  It is a great feature though.  I'll quickly try tweaking the permissions on that, and see if it works.  My goal was to be able to allow people to group them selves by state, so users would easily be able to identify others from the same state.  However using clubs, in their current capasity, may not be the anser I am trying to achieve.  I figured even it the secondary user group couldn't be displayed in the user's personal block, they could still find fellow statesmen by using the Usersgroup link in the Community section.  I'll have to give some thought on how to allow others to find people from their own state.
