I got a couple of questions.
The first is someone posted spam links in my shoutbox. I have it set so that you have to login before you see it. The person was a guest. How do you delete the post and how did the person be able to do that?

The second is that I was looking at my security logging and noticed that a lot of people with user names had failed logins. Now the all but one of the people are not showing up in the member list. Could someone please explain to me what is happening. Thank you.

1.) Your shoutbox is connected to your "Chatrooms". Do you have permissions set for that to just members? You can delete from there as well. Just enter the General Chat and you can delete posts as admin.

2.) Will let Chris go at this one.

I did have it set for just members, but when I checked, the option for guest was enabled. So I disabled it again. Maybe I forgot to save it the first time around.
Thank you for helping.

W.r.t. '2', failed logins is simply failed logins - not failed attempts to access an account that necessarily exists.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
