Are block RSS feeds broken

Hello all, I was wondering if the RSS feed block is broken? I was using an RSS feed on my site now it says
An error occurred trying to download/parse an RSS feed (http://www.christiantoday.com/rss/feed.xml): XML error when parsing RSS/Atom stream: Invalid document end at line 1
I tried a new feed jut to make sure it wasn't my feed and got a simular error
An error occurred trying to download/parse an RSS feed (http://www.christianpost.com/services/rss/feed/): XML error when parsing RSS/Atom stream: Invalid document end at line 49
Any thoughts?

I've just taken a look at that feed, and it looks OK to me, so perhaps it was a passing problem with the feed you were trying to display.

Try clearing the block cache, and see if the problem disappears.

I've cleared all the cache. It still appears broken. But it's not jut that feed. I can't seem to get any working. I might try the Google feed to see if that one works.

I can confirm the problem.
Line 2592 (approx) of sources/global2.php needs changing from:

Code

   if (($input_charset==='') || (is_null($input_charset))) return '';
to:

Code

   if (($input_charset==='') || (is_null($input_charset))) return $data;

This fix will also be included in our next patch release, due very soon.

Well-settled

Chris,

I've been getting an error with V4 that is along a similar line (V3 worked great), and is still acting up after the 4.0.4 update (I checked that line and it is correct as shown in your post)

Error message - "XML error when parsing RSS/Atom stream: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 249"

This happens with any feed source I've tried.

Thanks for any insight

Hi,

The fact that it is a high line (249) suggests it's a different kind of problem. It looks to me like the feed is actually malformed, although I appreciate you say it's happening on all feeds you try.
Please provide an example feed URL and I'll look into it.

With this feed, "CNN.com", the error is "XML error when parsing RSS/Atom stream: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 11"

 This feed, "CNN.com", error message is "XML error when parsing RSS/Atom stream: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 11"

 This feed, "YNOT.com", error message is, "XML error when parsing RSS/Atom stream: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 24" (This feed worked well on V3 as well as the others)

 The default feed provided under one of the OC RSS blocks, "Page Not Found | Channel 9", gives no error message and provides no feed (just blank)

 and the default OC RSS feed, "Google News U.K. - World</title><link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://news.google.co.uk/news?hs=UTT&tab=wn&topic=w"/><tagline>Google News U.K. - World</tagline><author><name>Google Inc.</name><email>news-feedback@google.com</email></author><", appears to work fine. I had no issues though, with any feeds in the V3 OcPortal version.

 Also, it's not a crushing priority if you have other projects you're working on…just wanted to see if you think maybe it's something to do on my end (maybe server compatibility?) or otherwise.

 Thanks

I've fixed a few glitches that came up with these feeds, and there were some other problems fixed. So hopefully the next patch release will resolve all the problems.
