RSS

I noticed in the RSS there is an OPML index feed. I've set up everything and its running great.

I'm able to feed my news/blogs, but I was making the forums an extension of my blog, like having an Articles Section.

This link:

Code

http://www.mysite.com/backend.php?type=RSS2&mode=ocf_forumview&days=30&max=100&keep_session=1830867209

Feeds everything posted on the forums.

I was wondering if I could display the topics and posts from a specific forum.

Articles

Code

http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php?page=forumview&id=articles

So I thought thins link might work?

Code

http://www.mysite.com/backend.php?type=RSS2&mode=ocf_forumview&id=articles&days=30&max=100&keep_session=1830867209

It does not. Any idea how to go about doing this?

Thanks.

I think it's &filter=forumid where forumid is a comma-separated numbers, e.g. &filter=1,2,3

I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

What does that look like?

I've tried this:

Code

http://www.mysite.com/backend.php?type=RSS2&mode=ocf_forumview&days=30&max=100&keep_session=1830867209&filter=2,9,10,11,12,14,15,16

And it did not work.

That looks right, but the site will advertise it's own feeds so you can look there to check. If you use Firefox or IE the RSS icon should have an option in it for the forum's feed if you're viewing the forum you want the feed of (not a topic in it, the topic list of the forum).

I got it Chris. I forgot to add a directory into the original code. It's working fine now.

I'm using feedburner.com.

Thank you very much.

Chris, does ocPortal come with a built-in RSS register? I didn't see it. I thought it would be below the news but nothing shows up. I know there is the RSS panels but those are to bring in feeds from other websites.

What's an RSS register?

I think you might mean the chicklet links (subscribe to RSS on Yahoo, etc). You can add them to any template with {+START,INCLUDE,NEWS_CHICKLETS}RSS_URL={$FIND_SCRIPT*,backend}{+END}.

Yes, at the bottom of most news feeds on blog sites, or at the top is a button to register, which has the RSS image, you click it and can receive RSS feeds in your feeder.

I am not too familiar with the terminology yet. I just learned all about RSS yesterday. Took a half a day from reading about it, incorporating what I wanted on my site to go into the feeds.

So far, so good. But just wanted at the top of my page some kind of "Register to receive feeds" button.

Got it, just some template editing for the news_piece_summary.tpl.
