I would like to disable access to the ecard feature either to all users or only permit it for users who have attained a trusted status through group membership. I have searched the various settings and so far have been unable to find the magic switch.

Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated and thanks.

As a followup, I was able to use the zone permission editor to remove view access to the "Recommend" feature. In the interim, this works for the intended purpose, though it does bring the user to an error page when they click the ecard link within the gallery.

Ideally, this would be a better situation for a match-key restriction, with a custom message stating this feature is only available to users with specific group membership.

I think the ecard feature is great, but without the ability to fine tune permissions down to trusted users, it has potential to be misused by spammers who find out about it.

Hey there Highsppedlane, I removed these lines, shown below, from GALLERY_ENTRY_SCREEN.tpl and GALLERY_FLOW_MODE_SCREEN.tpl - You'll find these at:

Style / Manage themes / your theme-NOT the DEFAULT THEME / edit templates

Code

{+START,IF,{$EQ,{PROBE_TYPE},image}}
{+START,IF,{$ADDON_INSTALLED,recommend}}
{+START,IF_NON_PASSED,VIDEO}
<p class="ecard_link"><img class="inline_image" src="{$IMG*,filetypes/email_link}" alt="" /> <a href="{$PAGE_LINK*,:recommend:misc:subject={!ECARD_FOR_YOU_SUBJECT}:page_title={!SEND_AS_ECARD}:s_message={!ECARD_FOR_YOU,{$SELF_URL},{FULL_URL*},{$SITE_NAME}}}">{!SEND_AS_ECARD}</a></p>
{+END}
{+END}
{+END}
This effectually removes the feature. Now there may be a clever way of leaving the feature and making it only show up if a particular usergroup is accessing the page but I didn't go that way.
