The v6 theme wizard does not work for non-default themes, even on themes that you just created with the wizard.

Problem 1: Error after theme creation::

Theme Wizard: Step 1 of 4
select a "Source theme" other then "Default theme"
leave "Theme Wizard algorithm" set to "Equations" (HSV-shift seems to work)
    Proceed

Theme Wizard: Step 2 of 4
    click "Use this theme"

Theme Wizard: Step 3 of 4
leave "Use theme on all zones" checked
    click "Add theme" button

Theme Wizard: Step 4 of 4
if you click "Manage themes" icon you get the following error:

Problem 2: Seed colours not applied::

Theme Wizard: Step 1 of 4
    select a new seed colour
select a "Source theme" other then "Default theme"
leave "Theme Wizard algorithm" set to "Equations" (HSV-shift seems to work)
    Proceed

Theme Wizard: Step 2 of 4
    click "Use this theme"

Theme Wizard: Step 3 of 4
leave "Use theme on all zones" checked
    click "Add theme" button

Theme Wizard: Step 4 of 4
If you now check your site you will find that although the theme has been copied, your new seed has not been applied.

On a nice-to-have note, it would be great if we could see the seed number of a given theme (maybe as a comment on the theme edit screen), so that if we want to apply the same seed to a different theme we can easily do so.

3- great suggestion, will be implemented

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Great Chris. I assume that 1 & 2 will be included in the patch you mentioned in my other topic?

If so, when can we expect the patch, and where will it be posted?

I'm relying on the #2 fix for my site.

Great idea - second that!

I was surprised it wasn't there already.

I would have thought this would have been an obvious feature, but waht seems obvious to one is not always so to others;)

It's all in 6.0.1, which your Admin Zone front page will be telling you about, as will our front page.

#1 & #2 work fine.

#3 looks good as long as the seed colour is not too similar to the admin zone colour. The seed number will become invisible or hard to read.

it has a white background behind the text so it should always look good (can't imagine anyone using a white seed colour).

Ok that's fine then. I just assumed it was using the pages background.
