I've only just noticed this aberration. Perhaps this can be quickly rectified?

And here is the diff-check to make it easy to spot. Not that I am any good at spotting WHY the change has 'broken' the display …

Oh, the block now supports Comcode. We should have announced that. Sorry for the confusion, if you add the 'semihtml' tag it should fix it.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Update:

Using the 'Edit' link in the panel gave access to the edit page, HOWEVER, editing in that pane screws up the COMCODE/HTML conversion. Even when the 'semihtml' tag is added - or probably BECAUSE it was added.

Several hours later, the few hundred 'quotes' have been sorted, and the display is showing things as near as dammit to how it showed previously.

This was not a successful 'step forward'. Wish I'd left the 5.0.3 file in place!

Sorry about this, we should have documented it – it was a quick change we did to add themeing control because a lot of themes are expected to be using random quotes (so you can bring in whatever Comcode facilities into the quotes).

This said – I have just examined the code and tested, and I don't think the quotes editor interface does anything clever? I think it's just a text box.

Absolutely! But it converts HTML to COMCODE. Where <br /> is specified it automatically shifts the following text to the next line, which in turn 'breaks' the continuity of the quote entry into TWO lines.

Which means that the 'quote+author' are neatly separated in the display, i.e. you get the quote without the author - OR - you get the author without the quote!

Now, that's CLEVER, but not in the context in which you meant it, I suspect!
