Here are the issues I have encountered so far after upgrading to v7, in the order I came across them.

1) On pages that show hidden user groups, the hidden groups are now shown as "unknown" with a link to an error page: "The requested resource does not exist."

Also, the url that the unknown link shows as "…/groups/view/administrators", so the group info is not actually hidden.

2) The shoutbox now shows the "user_x has entered/left the room", where user_x is the currently logged in user. These messages should not appear in the shout box as they just waist precious shoutbox space.

3) Checking the Firefox error console showed this error:

Code

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIDOMGeoGeolocation.getCurrentPosition]"  nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)"  location: "JS frame :: .../data/iframe.php?zone=site&wide_high=1&utheme=mytheme&page=members&type=misc :: anonymous :: line 350"  data: no]

4) Received the following error navigating to  …/adminzone/pg/admin_config/category/SITE#group_GENERAL

Code

A template file is missing: FLAGRANT_DEFAULT_TEXT (themes/default/templates/FLAGRANT_DEFAULT_TEXT.tpl or an overridden equivalent to this path) (version: 7.0, PHP version: 5.2.17, URL: /cms/adminzone/pg/admin_config/category/SITE)

Note that during install "FLAGRANT_DEFAULT_TEXT.tpl" was identified as an alien file and I was given the option to delete it, which I did. Restoring the file from another install stopped the error.

Note that the following templates were also identified as alien I deleted them also:

    FORM_SCREEN_INPUT_RADIO_LIST_ENTRY_PICTURE_3_TABLE.tpl
    FORM_SCREEN_INPUT_RADIO_LIST_ENTRY_PICTURE_3_ROW.tpl
    FORM_SCREEN_INPUT_RADIO_LIST_ENTRY_PICTURE_2_ROW.tpl
    FLAGRANT_MANAGE_SCREEN.tpl

Do I need to reinstate them?

5) When there are too many admin search results, the notification message is doubled up as follows:

Code

"There are too many entries to provide a list to choose from. You will need to access content via browsing / searching. There are too many entries to provide a list to choose from. You will need to access content via browsing / searching."
Also, I think that the message should include a comment that refining your search is an option.

1&2- I'm working on these

3- This isn't ocPortal, it might be Google Maps or something like that, or a browser extension.

4- I've posted the solution in the upgrade topic.

5- Fixed for next release.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

1 & 2 - Fixes worked!

3 - This is the map from ocUsermap.

4 - Can you please confirm that the other alien templates I listed are true aliens.

5 - OK.

This should work around the geolocation error, although you can just ignore it actually, it has no side-effects (just your browser does not support geolocation or it's disabled somehow).

Regarding those templates, yes they are no longer used. The problem with the flagrant one is that it was referenced in one of the config options that was already installed as the generator for that options default, and the config screen looks at those defaults to see what config options have been changed from their defaults. I hadn't figured that, only affects people upgrading.
