Moving site to new host gives Critical errors

I'm in the process of moving my site to a new host. I've boxed up the site and database and unpacked it on the new host. Since I'm only able to access the new host by IP number until I make the DNS changes,

I edited the info.php file with the IP number (http:// xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) instead of a domain name. When I try to access the new site, I just get a Critical error - bailing out notice. Same when I try to access the Admin zone. I've tried running the upgrader.php but it fails also. The only thing that will work is config_editor.php.

So I guess my questions are…
Does ocPortal not like IP numbers in place of a domain name?
Is this related to something other than using an IP number?
Am I missing something due to mental exhaustion? O_o

Did you flush the ocPortal cache before you moved the site?

When you ran the upgrader, did you click the "clear caches" button?

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

"Please contact support about failure" is not an ocPortal or PHP error message. Google tells me it is Smarty.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

After reading this, I wasn't sure if I did that so I started the process all over again. Unfortunately I got the same results.

I've just spent the past 6 hours uploading, deleting, testing, configuring, pulling out what little hair I have. I have even tried a clean install using the manual extractor, automatic extractor, and the instant transfer. All failed instantly when I started install.php.

I'm beginning to think this is a host problem as I did the exact same steps on my test server and had a good site transfer using the exact same files I uploaded to the new host.

I've put in a support ticket to the new host and now I'm awaiting their response.

I'll report my findings when I have them.

Their response was I wasn't using index.php or install.php (http:// xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/install.php) in my URL. LOL!

I'm not sure what changes they made, but trying a clean install this morning worked perfectly and uploading my site resulted happiness.

Now I just need to figure out why only the gallery images are showing, not buttons, not avatatrs, not ranks, nothing, except gallery images. But that will be another topic if I don't get it figured out.

Thanks everyone for your assistance!

You might try the optimizer in:
Admin Zone > Tools > Website cleanup tools > Theme images (Any mapping in the theme image mapping which is not a specially uploaded user-image. This will allow re-searching for URLs for theme images that have not been explicitly overridden in the image manager.)

…see if it works for you?

No, same results.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the site using an IP number as its base URL instead of an actual domain name?

I'm at a real loss as to where I should look and what to look for.

I now know using an IP number as the base URL makes the images not appear. I briefly switched back to my domain name as the base URL and accessed the site by IP number and everything was working as it should. I know I was on the new host because I have different text on the landing page.
