I was in my chat room and was checking out the ban user feature. When I tried to ban myself (I was logged in as admin at the time), I got the following error.

I didn't think too much about the error at the time (as obviously you wouldn't normally try and ban yourself, but it still shouldn't have errored in this way).

Any way, it looks like its tried to more then just banning me from the chat room. As now when I try and add news/blogs, etc. I'm getting errors like "“admin” does not have the specific-permission, ‘Submit high-impact (high visibility) content’". See here:

How can I get my admin permissions back?

Also, when you ban a user from the chat room, I assume the ban is only for chat the room, and not for any other content or the rest of the sight? The problems with my admin account has just got me thinking a little as to what exactly it is trying to do.

Ah right,

keep_fatalistic thing again, I'm going to add a 'all stack traces were requested, click here to disable that' message to these screens, as a few people are getting confused.

You submitter banned yourself too. I am adding additional protection to stop this happening.

You will find a way to change it in the action log, or I think there'll be an unban link in the chat room where the ban link used to be.
Or you can look at the usersubmitban_member table.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Chat lobby Member blocking section doesn't show that anyone is banned. That's the first thing I did and why I pretty-much ignored the error.

The action logs show admin as banned.

Investigate user shows not-banned.

And the ocpo_usersubmitban_member table is empty.

Hows that for a head scratcher?

Completely sure you are looking in the right copy of that table? Maybe you have multiple installs or databases?

I was looking at the right table, I just didn't see the record.

O_o My eyes just gravitated to the 0 - 0, and I read it as 0 records, and completely missed the record it self :$.

Deleted it and all good now, Thanks Chris!

(I really should stop these 2:00 am sessions  )
