Can someone please tell me where I need to go to manage the display of user account information.

The following image show how an administrator can manage his/her own account information.

I want to give other members the same ability, but I just can't seem to find where to do that. I can control the permissions of the individual items, like so:
But the account area is not visible to them.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

I think that would be in the zone view permissions.

Go to Home > Admin Zone > Structure > Zones and try that.

No luck.

If I enable "Displayed in menu" then the links are available in my left panel, but I don't want that, I want them to appear in the account section like for admins.

Also, that forces personal zone to appear in the zone menu, and I don't want that either.

I must not have explained myself well. Bellow that you will see an area to edit permission for who can view the account zone….it may be contracted so you over looked it.

My first reaction to that was …

But you could be selective and give 'selected' members Super-Mod status which would allow them to 'see' that area. But perhaps you have other ideas.

 O_o

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Looks like I misunderstood what that "account sections" was actually doing.

Because I entered the section via the "my profile" link, I just assumed that those edit links were for the currently logged in user, not for the currently displayed user.

What I want is for members to be able to manage their own details (avatar, profile, etc.) without having a personal zone in the zone menu.

They can currently view they profile ok, but not edit it.

You explained yourself just fine.

I already had the right permissions set, the only thing that made a difference was the "displayed in menu" option.

It looks like I have misunderstood the purpose of the "accounts" section, as I have explained to Fletch.

Looks like I just need to move/replicate the forum_personal menu.

Isn't that another admin/super-mod feature to edit any profile, not just your own?

In any case, I've added the forum_personal menu to my forum zone left panel, and that should do me.

Another permission issue that I just remembered I have is with guest not being able to viewing member profiles. They can view the member list OK, but can not see any specific members details, they just get a "Access denied " error message.

I disabled it a few days ago while experimenting, but now I can't find where to re-enable it.

I think the main issue here could be considered a bug. I think this will fix it:

Search the Admin Zone for 'view_profiles'.

Replacing members.php with this update resulted in this error for my members trying to access their profiles or attempting to view other profiles:

Expand: trace trace

Caches were cleared!
Replaced with previous file for now, which does not give any errors.

I agree, as that side panel is too prominent a position just for admin features, not to mention the way you get to it.

Maybe make/copy a menu and have the menu show up in other zones?

IE, there is that menu to change your profile stuff (avatar and what not) within the personal zone. It is called "pc_edit". You could add that pc-edit menu to any zone, thus giving the member the ability to edit their stuff, from for example, the forum zone.

Then again, maybe I am misreading what you are after lol.

Was you intention (i.e. bug fix) to enable both the control functions section and account sections, or just Control functions section, because non admins still can not see the account section?

I already did that as I reported several posts ago here:
