How do I rename the blocks on the start page?

Is it possible to rename the blocks on the front page? Eg. can I change the "image of the day" to "latest download preview" or something of the like?

Thanks for your help!

I have a second question, which isn't worth a new thread. Is there a way to totally remove the registration system so that new members can only be added with the "add member" button?

I'm going to answer this 3 ways…

1) You might want to use the main_content block instead, to pull out random or specific downloads directly. Then you don't need to maintain a separate IOTD.

2) You can change it by editing the BLOCK_MAIN_IOTD template. You'd change '{!IOTD}' (which references a language string containing the text you want rid of) to just literally "Latest download preview".

3) You could edit the language. Admin Zone, Style Section, Language icon, iotds.ini language file. You could change all the words used there. This has a more sweeping effect.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

You can deny guests access to the 'join' module. This is done in the Permission Tree Editor (Security section of the Admin Zone). It's located under Welcome\Join in the editor if I remember correctly.

Generally ocPortal doesn't throw out lots of 'Please join' links so it's fairly safe. If you edit the side_personal_stats block off of your panel and the main_greeting block off of your front page then you're probably well on your way.
