Not the Forums

Actually, two questions:

1. I don't mind the edit button, obviously on the forums. Is there a way to set a time limit to this? So after say 30 minutes, you can no longer edit your post anymore? I am the admin so I guess if it's there, I'm always able to edit my posts? This is fine. But members.. I want to remove that option to edit their posts after 30 minutes.

2. When I edit videos in the video gallery or news in the news section, on the bottom shows up an edited… on a specific date. I've attempted to remove these and perhaps I'm doing it the wrong way. I was simply removing the edit code so nothing would be posted, though I'm still seeing the edit there. So I'm just wanting a confirmation of what to remove and in which files.

I thought (going off top of my head here) News_Full_Summary.tpl and the Video_Gallery.tpl file.

Hey Xarex! Not sure on your first question, don't think so, but would make a decent feature for sure. I've seen it on other forum packages.

As for your second query, for the videos, hava peak in GALLERY_ENTRY_SCREEN.tpl and look for:

Code

                  {+START,IF_NON_EMPTY,{EDIT_DATE}}
                     <tr>
                        <th class="de_th meta_data_title">{!EDITED}</th>
                        <td>{EDIT_DATE*}</td>
                     </tr>
                  {+END}
and

Code

   {+START,IF_NON_EMPTY,{EDIT_DATE_RAW}}
      <div class="edited edited_block">
         <img alt="" title="" src="{$IMG*,edited}" />
         {!EDITED} {$DATE*,{EDIT_DATE_RAW}}
      </div>
   {+END}

For the news, look at NEWS_FULL_SCREEN.tpl and the line you are looking for should be something like:

Code

{+START,IF_NON_EMPTY,{EDIT_DATE_RAW}}{$DATE*,{EDIT_DATE_RAW}}{+END}

Xarex, for #1, I think in most cases the ability to edit your own post is desirable at any time. On this forum, for example, I usually go back and edit my first posts days, or sometime weeks, later to mark them as resolved/closed.

@temp1024: IMHO it would depend on the type of site that the material is being posted too. In some cases, historical record is required and if the posts can be edited at any time this presents a challenge.

Thanks SoccerDad. It seems to have worked that time when I removed the entire code. The last time I was getting an error and retried it several times, only getting the same error. Works now. I may have just removed the wrong thing.

And I have always used forums that seem to have a time capsule on them.. anywhere from 1 minute, 5 minutes, up to 30, and sometimes hours.

I had sworn I thought I saw it in the ocPortal features, but maybe not. If it doesn't exist..it would be a nice feature to add. And for all sorts of reasons… so that a conversation / topic stays final after a certain amount of minutes.

It's not like most people will do it, but say a topic gets popular.. and a few days has passed, and now the person decides they are going to change the entire content of the forums. Anyways, it's not that people usually do that. But they could, and to have preventative measures to stop it from happening would be nice.

That's why I said 'most' SoccerDad.

You always have the "post edit/moderation history" option to fight the revisionists.

But you would have to open this feature up to members for viewing for community assistance. If not, seems like a make work project for admins/moderators….

Bottom line: it's just one of those features that would be nice to have and turn off/on….one size does not fit all. ;)

I think viewing history is supposed to be available when "Security Privileges General settings May view revision history" is enabled, but I just tried it and it did not seem to do anything.

I have no problem with your bottom line. I like lots of flexibility, in fact several feature requests came out of my recent user test session:  View topic: User testing - ocPortal .

The most direct path is available to those with permission when viewing the members profile under Audit, bottom right.
