homepage is on wrong domain other pages are fine

It's been a long time since I messed with my ocportal due to health issues, and now that I've come back I've been running into issues
I managed to fix the other issues but I'm confused about this one.

At some point I changed the config file but it had no effect on the mainpage.

Example of what I'm talking about:

Mainpage is now sample2.com  all other pages are sample.com

The config file shows sample.com for everything, but the mainpage is being stubborn. Note: clicking on the word "Home" sends everyone to the correct mainpage sample.com/portal/index.php?page=start

This leads to an error message whenever someone accesses sample2.com:
You are accessing via sample2.com, but the domain in the base URL is sample.com. Accessing from the wrong domain will cause SEO problems, and Javascript security errors. You might want to set up a redirect on your web server to guarantee visitors reach the correct domain.

I already setup a redirect on sample2.com through the domain host to send everyone to sample.com but the mainpage of the portal is refusing to do it. I'm wanting to stop paying for sample2.com but I can't do that until everything is on sample.com and working properly.

Is there a setting I'm overlooking to fix this?

Sounds like your 'redirect' is connecting up the domains, not actually redirecting. When you type in "sample2.com" into the browser it should actually do a redirect right away and the address bar should change.

well it turns out the redirect from sample2.com to sample.com is working properly but for some reason sample.com is sending everyone to http://sample2.com/portal/index.php instead of
http://sample.com/portal/index.php

i checked the domain control panel, and there is no redirecting set up for sample.com at all. So there's something in the portal setup that's causing this?

But the config page doesn't show it. It shows everything is sample.com
Is there some other file it would be in?

open up ocportal's config_editor.php script or manually edit info.php

Have you checked that the base_url in sample.com/config_editor.php is pointing to sample.com and not sample2.com?

(Chris just snuck in before me while I was writing the post !!!)

yes, as I already said, the config page shows everything including base url is sample.com
info.php shows it too.
that's why I was wondering if there's some other file where it would need to be edited.
I'm so confused as to why this is happening, and its only the mainpage, everything else on the site has sample.com as its prefix, including the admin zone

You may need to empty the caches from Admin Zone > Tools > Cleanup Tools, or from inside the upgrader.

just now got time to go back and try what you said.
i upgraded to the newest version and now i'm running into an additional error with side_search.php not existing
unfortunately upgrading and clearing caches did nothing, sample.com is still redirecting to sample2.com/portal/
