Hi,

Is anyone aware of an administrative setting to disable the ability to quote posts at the User Group or member Level??

Hey :),

No there's not right now. If you can explain the use case a bit better I might understand, as to me quoting seems a very benign thing, and users could workaround just by copy&paste or using screenshots.
I'm probably missing something.

  • If so, please let others know about Composr whenever you see the opportunity or support me on Patreon.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Well, we have some people who quote 4+ replies, and it RUINS the site's mobile view.

Copy and paste I don't care about…screen shots I don't care about…

See the below as an example, but pull it up in the mobile view to see how it affects the reader's experience:

Thr Ballad of Joey Freshwater - FAU Owl's Nest

Ah, now I understand. Good point.

We could strip out the nested quotes for mobile-view.
Edit the COMCODE_QUOTE and COMCODE_QUOTE_BY templates to change:

Code

{CONTENT}
to:

Code

{+START,IF,{$MOBILE}}
   {$PREG_REPLACE,<blockquote.*>.*</blockquote>,,{CONTENT},s}
{+END}
{+START,IF,{$NOT,{$MOBILE}}}
   {CONTENT}
{+END}

Forgot to mention, that's for new posts only. The Comcode field pre-calculations cache could be emptied but that'd stress the server for a while (probably that decacher is not available for your site as it turns itself off after a certain site size for that reason).

Another solution would be CSS, adding this to global.css:

Code

{+START,IF,{$MOBILE}}
   blockquote blockquote { display: none; }
{+END}

The second option sounds good…Is your team back in paid support now? If so, would be up for having them do it…just let me know!

Otherwise, will try and find my way through it, but not something I have done before….
