There's a few ways to view a new private topic but which one will get rid of the notification on the first try? Seems hard to make it go away. I don't want to turn off notification of it, just view it once and notification be gone.

Also, is there a basic member, user manual that I would be able to put on my site to explain all the common features like above or is that something I need to come up with? Something in Layman's terms would be nice. The proper English of the ocp docs might be over most American's heads I fear.

Thanks, John

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks
I looked in admin re: 9.0.16 and using the link in admin, I only saw two bug fixes and neither one had to do with this issue.
I'm looking at this page (View Issues - ocPortal feature tracker) and applied a filter of 9.0.16 which narrows it down to three. Is this correct for me to be concerned with. (if any given issue has an affect in my usage of ocp) Not trying to be a pest here. Just trying to learn what I need to and I'm not familiar any bug/issue tracking system.
Thanks
ETA: hmm, applying that filter, the notification issue doesn't show. Anyway.
Thanks for getting on this. I see the fix was today. I had a couple of screenshots saved but guess I don't need to put them here. One was showing that I didn't have the unmonitor button available even while the notification(s) were still uncleared. I guess I should reported this but I thought it was operator error on my part. I'm not confident enough to report bugs/issues.;)

As a rule you should only install hotfixes you specifically need. As ocPortal is a very large product, this will only be a small proportion. If you install many hotfixes you are likely to come across issues, such as them not being cross-compatible if not installed in the same order as they were made.

The bit where it shows unread private topics etc isn't actually the same as the main notification system in ocPortal, so the monitor button is unrelated.
