I know there's an option to quickly delete lurkers.

Is there a quick way to remove unvalidated (those who have to validate their email address) members? Or would this be considered a wish list item?

*bump*

So is this option not available through the admin area? If not, I request this for a future version. :P

Hi,

If there's no obvious option in there I don't think there's a way without coding – but I haven't looked on this screen in a while so I'm rusty on it.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Is there an option to have the user confirm their email before allowing login?

You can set it up so members have to validate their email address, yes. Didn't see an option for admins to validate, tho.

setup > member and forum options > usernames, passwords, and members accounts

Ok, yes I found that.

If you set up  Setup > Configuration > Member and forum options
No confirmation of member e-mail addresses  (untick)

Then the user must wait for confirmation email and click link before they can logon.

At that point,  you can modify the delete Lurker to delete:
in newbie group only
XX maximum points (whatever you've set the default points to for new users)
max logged actions = 0
min days since last visit = 0
min days since joining = ### however far back you want to go to wipe out those suckers.

I think that will work.  I realize that is no solution for existing stuff, but going forward or a new site   it's a doozy

OCP Admins is my logic sound there?  or did I just vomit

That's not what I want, however. I am looking for a fast way to delete those who do not validate their email address. I don't care about my lurkers. However, I don't want to take up the member space of those who don't want to validate their account. I've deleted some where I know they are fake emails so member will not be able to validate it. Cheap way of getting in. You have to register for my downloads, so they think they can make it an easy ride… they found out wrong. And I might have some bots trying to register. So a quick removal of these would be nice for me rather than deleting one-by-one.
