swf banners? universal banner management?

Hey Guys,

I had a few questions regarding the OCPortal Banner system that hopefully you can help me with.

1. I have looked into flashvortex and used a few of their generators and considering possibly signing up with them. However in the banner management area in cms I cant seem to upload the swf files and if i use the direct code provided the banner appears as blank. I also considered uploading them to a private gallery and trying to point the banner system to them, would this work?

Is it possible to use 'videos' such as swf files for the banner system or must they be normal images?

2. I haven't fully looked into this but I was wondering if ocportal banner system can be used to manage/show banners on my other sites or if i would have to install some sort of banner management script on my server, and use that to manage everything?

Thanks in advance :P

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I just fixed our swf upload bug, but direct code should have been fine - so was likely an HTML error of some sort.

From ocPortal's point of view, swfs are blobs. It doesn't know what is inside them, makes no difference.

I haven't fully looked into this but I was wondering if ocportal banner system can be used to manage/show banners on my other sites or if i would have to install some sort of banner management script on my server, and use that to manage everything?

You can indeed show ocPortal's banner system anywhere, it's actually quite a sophisticated banner network system.

Hey Chris,

Thanks so much for that. Applied the fix and will look into creating banners for my magento install to handle all from ocportal :)

I have noticed there are a few hotfixes that generally need applying, but i found the tracker quite hard to navigate.

I put it specific to the latest version of ocportal and only 2 fixes were tagged for it.

I also found a hotfix for an addon i needed too. Is there any easier way of figuring out what hotfixes i will want to apply or do i basically have to find my bug and search it on here?

The Admin Zone front page's version block has a link to a bug list.

Heya Again,

Chris do you know if there is a thread or tutorial regarding putting banner rotations on other websites? I am guessing there is a small script in html i need to place where i want it?

It tells you when you add a banner.
