Purging records and bad user profiles

I am coming from a site that was run on Xoops 2.0.15 with CBB 3.0.1 as the forums (version numbers off the top of my head).

OK so since there is no Xoops importer (and using the phpNuke one against Xoops doesn't work, at least not for me) I decided to convert to SMF then to OCPortal. SMF has an importer that works against Xoops + CBB. Ok the SMF portion went fine, except for polls. Not worried not many polls to be concerned with and in Xoops those aren't technically part of the forum anyway. I also had avatar importation issues but again not worried about that either. The big thing for me to import are the users and the posts. Everything alse I can ask them to reset in their profiles and as for more admin level content, news and stuff, heck if I must I can do that manually.

Anyway first thing a question. How do I purge my site of all members (but admin) and all forum info, personal and regualr topics, posts, categories, the works. Easy non DB-direct way of doing this. So I can retest the import. I had two runs and well, I want to make sure everything happened right.

The reason is that right now if I go to look at the profile of ANY member in the system (other than ones entered pre-import through OCPortal) I get a resource can not be found message that shows me the site map. How can I tell what resource is missing from this message and on top of that, anybody got an idea what happened during the SMF import that has caused this and how to fix it?

Very quick answer to last point (will reply properly when I have time)…

Add &keep_fatalistic=1 to URL, to see a stack dump saying exactly where the missing-resource warning comes from.

This is what it returned back to me:

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in whenthe error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodifiedsoftware, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and ifthere isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely postinga stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stacktrace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. Westill need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how youtried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptly.

It really does seem as if there were just several problems. Posts are showing this error. Looking at the user groups assignments it does not even match what was in SMF. The SMF portion of the conversion really looks fine. OC does not. I think it was the way I did it at first. Give this a little more time and then I think I need to just do a quick reinstall of OCP then reimport the SMF data and see where ti stands. I am just doing conversion testing now so reverting is no big deal.

except for polls

Could you let me know what went wrong for polls please. Also is it the latest stable SMF version?

I also had avatar importation issues but again not worried about that either.

Again, could you let me know what went wrong please. We'd like to get the bugs fixed for other users :).

Looking at the user groups assignments it does not even match what was in SMF.

Ack, that's not good. Could you describe the problem a bit more please - are group memberships missing, or people in the wrong groups?

Anyway first thing a question. How do I purge my site of all members (but admin) and all forum info, personal and regualr topics, posts, categories, the works. Easy non DB-direct way of doing this. So I can retest the import. I had two runs and well, I want to make sure everything happened right.

You can't really, unless you reinstall. If you grab the manual installer and upload the install.php file you can keep reinstalling ocPortal as many times as you like. The content (all the content) is erased each time, but Comcode pages and themes are not.

For the stack dump, it seems to be a user (or some users) have been put in a usergroup '0'. An SQL query should sort that out, but it looks like a bug in the importer.

If you could get me a copy of your SMF database it would help me out. I could run it past the programmer who wrote the importer and get him to fix the problems.

Ok well SMF importer failed on the polls because in Xoops + CBB there are no polls to import, polls are kept in a separate module so, well not sure why it tried it but it failed. No access to the original error. I would have to rerun. As far the avatars, it just didn't bring the files over. Xoops + CBB stores the files in a crazy naming system that I have found most bridges and converters spit up at anyway. However we are just talking Xoops + CBB converting to SMF. Other than those two things everything went fine. Well one snaggle, in SMF the Xoops field REAL NAME became DISPLAY NAME in SMF and I don't think my users want that, so I will write a quick SQL modify to correct that.

Anyway looking at my SMF install everything is fine, posts look good, profiles look good, personal messages look good. Just missing avatars (which I don't mind telling users they have to reload) and of course there are no polls (or calendar info, again a different module in Xoops, not worried).

Ok on to OCPortal. The first time I imported I checked everything, yeah I know now that is not what you do, RTFM. Anyway I did that, go an error. Traced it down to being the user files. Which there is nothing there to import no matter how you slice it so it was pointless. Same with the polls. So I dumped that session, did a new session and did one by one that was relevant. And that is where we are today. So it might just make more sense to start over. I didn't delete my install.php, I just renamed it, I knew I might need it in the testing I was doing so there you go. My OCP version I would assume is up to date. I mean I downloaded it last week!

So let me start over and go from there. But to answer your question on what happened with the groups. I had a group in Xoops called content admin, it had 5 people in it. Content admin was basically editorial staff, could approve and write news and reviews as well as approve a couple other submission areas for guest entries. They came over right to SMF but from SMF to OCF, well OCF put everyone in Content Admin. I tried to fix this by copying them to regular but oh well.

Let me ask another question before I do my redo. I want to start all points at 0, but the importer started giving people points. How do I 0 out everyone's points, in the system, or hell give me the table and field name. Which brings up another side note question, is there a published ERD for OCP, I would love a copy if no one minds?

As for the SMF DB, heck I can get you whatever you want. But look let me test a little more to get rid of my order of operations errors. Let me make sure it is not my own user error first. Besides I may reimport the SMF converter with some code to skip polls, just to see a success message!

Still not working, did a complete reinstall, reimport, clean as could be, no dice.  I get that same stack trace from the error be it viewing a topic or a member profile.  Everyone got put into the Content Admin group.  To answer a question you asked earlier the SMF version is 1.1.7, current SMF is actually 1.1.8 which was just released,  if memory serves, so I would not think it would matter.

Anyway look I need to know if this importer will work, or I might have to abandon OCP + OCF as my CMS to migrate to.  And abandoning OCF might mean abandoning OCP altogether.  So what next?  Tell me what you need to look into this and I will get it for you.  Quite frankly this is ona VPS that is not in production yet anyway so I would be willing to go ahead and give you some access directly to the machine if that is what it will take.

Hi Ken,

It's probably going to take me about half a day to go through this topic, and we've got 4 client projects and a big stack of support tickets and other bug reports to work through - it's going to have to be a few days before I can reply I'm afraid.

Very sorry for the delay Ken, it's been very busy the last few weeks. I hope you haven't given up.

For the stack dump, it seems to be a user (or some users) have been put in a usergroup '0'. An SQL query should sort that out, but it looks like a bug in the importer.
..
So let me start over and go from there. But to answer your question on what happened with the groups. I had a group in Xoops called content admin, it had 5 people in it. Content admin was basically editorial staff, could approve and write news and reviews as well as approve a couple other submission areas for guest entries. If I have a copy I can just load it up into my local mySQL database and in 5 minutes probably I'll see the problem and get a fix :). Otherwise I'm speculating which is a lot harder for me and we'll have to do quite a lot of verbal ping-pong. It's almost certainly a bug in the SMF importer, so we're happy to resolve it.
If you can send this over I'll prioritise looking into the problems in the above quote.

I didn't delete my install.php, I just renamed it

If it's a site on a private URL you can upload a blank file named "install_ok" and it'll let you keep it. Not something I'd recommend but if it's not web accessible some might consider it okay.

My OCP version I would assume is up to date. I mean I downloaded it last week!

Importers are always tricky, because they get used by less people, and are harder to test. We haven't made any serious changes to the SMF importer in a while.

Let me ask another question before I do my redo. I want to start all points at 0, but the importer started giving people points. How do I 0 out everyone's points, in the system, or hell give me the table and field name.

There's a config option that let's you define how many points are given per post - you can set this to zero. It'll affect the point counts retroactively.

Which brings up another side note question, is there a published ERD for OCP, I would love a copy if no one minds?

There isn't one, but you might learn something from the source code. The tables are defined with some extra detail than mySQL actually does. E.g. for the downloads tables, look in site/pages/modules/downloads.php and you will see what the different integer fields actually store.
There's more information about our field types in our Code Book.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

This is for SMF 1.x. We don't track all the software for new versions - is SMF 2 to final/Gold now?

We may be able to help if we can get sample data to import.

Last I heard 2.x was still in Beta.  The current stable release is 1.1.8.
