At the bottom of the notifications page you can check to have monitoring turned on for any topic you post in, so you are informed of any updates to that topic.

So how is that notification sent?   Right now it comes to me via a PT… but does this:

play into it?    Is 'forum topic activity' just for monitored topics, or for all topics?     if it is for only monitored topics, then with the setup you see (nothing selected for it), then topics that are monitored and have updates, it still sends a PT even though that is not selected…

It does, I believe. You can have it send you a PT, and email, or both basically.

Like ocPortal? Want to thank Chris and gang somehow? Then help out in the chat room! It really needs your help! Just open it in a tab everytime you open your web browser, and when you hear a "ding", check it out!

In which case, it is sending a PT even if turned off.

That's peculiar…

Man, I wish my site wasn't bandwidth maxed right now… I'd take a look at it more then… But I wonder if this might be a bug…

Yeah, it seems that if you are monitoring a topic, but don't have any form of notification selected for that topic, you get a PT.    Is that a bug or how it's designed Chris?

Also, to note, if you hit advanced on forum topic activity in notifications, it appears that it lists polls as well as TOPIC: poll name …

This is confusing, it should not be working like that.

The main notification screen is for getting notifications regardless of individual things you might be monitoring. i.e. ALL topics.
This has no relationship with how you might monitor an individual topic (or if it is auto-monitored).

The topic notifications are explicitly not allowed to be via PT. If you go into advanced you should see the PT option is greyed out. I just tested when I had no email configured and even then it did not come through as a PT notification – it came as an email one, after I configured an email address.

The topic notifications for topics you've participated in automatically monitor as email ones if auto-monitoring is enabled.

If you see polls come up in here, it'll likely be the comment topics for them.

Could these be old topics that notifications were set up on an older version? I think a few patch releases back it was changed to not allow PT notifications for topics.

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

This is a pretty fresh install.   But just to step through it, I have a thread I created.  Auto monitor is set to on.

1) in advanced, it shows as send email.  So that is right.  With a test user I post to it, and get an email notification of the post.

2) in advanced I deselect email notification for a different thread that I was monitoring.   test user posts a message in that thread.  no email notification shows up.  no pt shows up this time.

So it works.  Maybe it was just something strange with that thread.

And yes, the poll topics were auto created in the comments sub forum, so now my little brain understand that one too.

Thanks
