Is the shoutbox supposed to be polling for new messages, or are new messages only received when the user manually refreshes/changes the page?

When I post a  shoutbox message in one browser window, the other window does not receive the shout until I manually refresh the window.

This is happening in v5.0.3 also, so I am assuming that this is the expected behaviour.

I wish it would be automatic. It's pulling from the General Chat (default).

I agree.

I sort-of remember automatically updating of shouts, but that must have been super-shout.

Yeah it's not automatic except for super-shout.

This seems to work technically
[block="site:chat:room:1"]main_include_module[/block]
with templating, might be ok. But it's pushing it, there could be some bugs.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
