First of all, the site code improvements are really starting to come together. This is eventually going to evolve into a fantastic product.

Is there going to be a prune forum option? Particularly the option to prune by post age, or unresponded to topics. This would help enormously down the road managing forums that are close to utilizing the max server storage capacity.

Sorry but for this kind of question I need to give our stock answer…

I'm afraid that for a number of reasons we can rarely comment on what will/won't be included in future versions of ocPortal, even though personally I'd love to. We put up a page explaining the complexity of our decisions. Basically we have to make a lot of complex multi-level and cross-product decisions on strategy, and with the complexity of it all, and the fast moving nature of the Internet, things can change and we don't want to announce something and then disappoint if we have to change plans. I hope this'll help you understand why we have to operate with a private internal planning process.

Thanks for bringing it up though!

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
