I have made a gallery that is only viewed by certain usergroup called Patrons. I included a comment field in there but realize that it goes to the general forum and can be read by anyone who has access to the forum. Is there a way to make the messages private and not public - like I did to the gallery by restricting it to a certain usergroup? Thanks in advance for your help. :P

Hi,

There's an unofficial feature for it.

In OcCLE type:

Code

:set_value('comment_forum__images_foobar','123');

This would put comment topics for all gallery images in a gallery called foobar in forum ID #123.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Oh, and any existing topics would need to get manually moved.

I tried this several times and the comments from the gallery image viewing page never gets sent to the new forum I created with permissions only for usergroup Patrons. It is always sent to the website comments forum.

My gallery is named: Don and Sharon G (don_and_sharon_g)

The Forum ID # is: 10

In OcCLE I typed the Code:

:set_value('comment_forum_images__don_and_sharon_g','10');

Hasn't worked for me yet...

Try:

Code

:set_value('comment_forum__images_don_and_sharon_g','10');

(I only moved a '_')

<edit>Chris beat me to it :$</edit>
I think you've got the double underscore in the wrong spot. Try:

:set_value('comment_forum__images_don_and_sharon_g','10');

I used the line

:set_value('comment_forum__images_don_and_sharon_g','10');

There is no change. The comments are still being put in the Website Comments Forum (which is forum ID # 5)

Still no change.

If it makes any difference, my gallery setup for this gallery is:
Galleries home–>>Patrons Gallery (patrons_gallery)–>>Don and Sharon G (don_and_sharon_g)

Should work :S.

If you had the image page open since before making the change I think the page needs refreshing (because the target forum is securely passed through from that page's HTML for the AJAX posting), that could be it.

It is working!

I closed the website page and then reopened it on the browser. Checked it with the SU feature and it can be accessed by the right people while the unauthorized ones are kept out. Thanks!
