what changes did you make before it started doing this or what did you add?

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Hi,

On the left side under the news marquee, like this

Code

<a href="http://WPBF.com" target="_top"><img src="http://mrgtechnologies.com/images/wpbfnews25_logo.gif" width="180"  alt="WPBF.com" border="0"></a>
News Headlines<br>
<!-- News Marquee Begin -->
<script language="JavaScript">
var iframesrc="http://mrgtechnologies.com/rssfeeds/newsheadlines/wpbf/rss_wpbfnews.php"
document.write('<iframe id="newsFeed" src="'+iframesrc+'" width="180" height="150" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" leftMargin="0" topMargin="0" hspace="0" vspace="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>')
</script>
<script language="JavaScript">
var maxTime= "30:00"
if (document.images){
var TimeRefresh = maxTime.split(":")
TimeRefresh=TimeRefresh[0]*60+TimeRefresh[1]*1
}
function startRefreshNow(){
if (!document.images)
return
if (TimeRefresh==1)
window.location.reload()
else{
TimeRefresh-=1
currentMinute = Math.floor(TimeRefresh / 60)
currentSecond=TimeRefresh%60
if (currentMinute!=0)
currentTime = currentMinute + currentSecond
else
currentTime = currentSecond
setTimeout("startRefreshNow()",1000)
}
}
window.onload = startRefreshNow
</script>
<br class="float_passer" />
<br class="float_passer" />
<!-- News Marquee Ends -->

Hi,

That's a cool news thing, I really like it.

However to me it looks like the problem is caused by the banner in the right hand panel.
A lot of banners place themselves to the side of content using a CSS property called 'float'. This basically says 'sit to the left/right, and wrap content around it'. However this isn't working with ocPortal due to the way the layout works.

I am guessing Ami is correct though, except the stuff needs to go in the right panel instead. It's quite hard to say as I don't know the whole picture.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

yes thats what I was thinking.
I wanted to know where he put it as I was wondering if it was put in the template or the panel.
It would work better in the side panel if its in the template.

Hmm that would be where it goes, Its almost like the middle panel needs to habe <br /> in it to make it work better.

I found & fixed the prob. for those of you who are using my news marquee, heres the code you would need to remove for the powered by OcPortal to come back to the bottom of your page -

Code

<script language="JavaScript">
var maxTime= "30:00"
if (document.images){
var TimeRefresh = maxTime.split(":")
TimeRefresh=TimeRefresh[0]*60+TimeRefresh[1]*1
}
function startRefreshNow(){
if (!document.images)
return
if (TimeRefresh==1)
window.location.reload()
else{
TimeRefresh-=1
currentMinute = Math.floor(TimeRefresh / 60)
currentSecond=TimeRefresh%60
if (currentMinute!=0)
currentTime = currentMinute + currentSecond
else
currentTime = currentSecond
setTimeout("startRefreshNow()",1000)
}
}
window.onload = startRefreshNow
</script>

b/c it really doesnt need this code to move.

Thanks to all who help me in this.

Thank you,
Michael
