Today I've been working on developing a quiz and there appears to be an annoying bug/idiosyncrasy in that pre-existing questions are repeated.

At first when making my first quiz, I couldn't get rid of the original examples or some of them questions (2 the tomato and Magma ones). I eventually did by deleting the quiz and starting again. However I've been working on a 25 question quiz which I have been correcting and I am frequently getting one question (not the same question) repeated so end up having 26 questions. It's as if the questions are cached somewhere even though you deleted all the text from the edit box and re-add the text as it should be.

It's not a real problem as I think I can delete the quiz and re-add it. More a FYI thing, however if it's me doing something wrong then, it'll be good to gain from this experience.

I'll also take this opportunity to introduce myself. Well as you've guessed I'm Mike, I've been around but silent since January I think. My interest is that I came by OC when I joined a forum, www.familylawwebguide.com.au and they showed interest in me being an IT guy (Mainframes mainly). Anyway I've written a Child Support Calculator (well 2 and on the third one), they've implemneted the first and doing the 2nd now, although I've been a real pain and made it really difficult for them to implement. Anyway in doing this I've sort of been adopted as the Child Support bloke and hence the following quiz which I volunteered to do. Anyway That's a little bit about me, so Hi everyone.

Here's my question list (re-numbered by the editor), hopefully there is nothing wrong with that  :-

Hi Chris and thanks for the welcome. I've done a little more looking at what's going on and when you do the preview it doesn't show the extra question(s), so I guess it's when you hit the Edit Quiz button that it does it.

My guess is that it likes to pick the last one or two but it's hard to tell because of the subsequent re-ordering of the questions.

I've replicated the problem by doing the following adding a quiz using the stock questions (Content Management, Quizes, Edit Quiz, Select the Quiz, Edit the quiz, no changes made, Preview (All fine), Edit quiz, View quiz) = no problem.
Repeated the above not making any changes = no problem (and again because that's me) = no problem.
Content Management, Quizes, Edit Quiz, Select the quiz, delete last question, add new question, Preview (all Fine), Edit Quiz, View Quiz = no problem.

Content Management, Quizes, Edit Quiz, Select the quiz, delete all three questions, Add one question, Preview (all fine just the one question), Edit Quiz, View Quiz = 2  previous questions added + new question (2 quesions are the original 2nd question + replaced third question from previous).

It might be that it's trying to maintain the previous number of questions? (Hard to tell if this is consistent as yesterday I was looking at getting the quiz done).

Looked in PHP (5.2.5), Apache(2.2.6) and MySQL(5.0.45) logs nothing in them.

Anyway let me know if there's anything else you want me to do.

Best Wishes, Mike.

Regards, Mike.

Thanks for the really thorough report there. You're pretty much spot on with the analysis. When editing quizzes it's not letting you reduce the number of questions.

Attached is a fixed sources/quiz.php file.

Chris,
wow, that was quick. I've renamed the old quiz.php and then copied the new downloaded one and it works a treat. Many thanks for that. Great work.

Thanks and best wishes, Mike.

Community saint

Thanks for an interesting thread, guys.

I've added the 'new' sources/quiz.php to the 3.2.9 rollout and will upload it when I do the upgrade.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
