Hi,

I have looked for an answer to this, but it seems to be unique. Yesterday, 3.1.0 stopped crediting one member for their participation.

I did a clean-up, twice, and no joy. The action logs just stopped for him last night.

Any ideas as to what is happening?

Thanks

Hi,

There's a specific permission for enabling points. Perhaps this users usergroup doesn't have this enabled?

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. Hi Chris,

I checked the permissions in the usergroup, and in the global specific permissions. In global specific permissions under points, the only thing I have checked is "Use Points". Everyone else gets points updated, but this one member doesn't.

How often are points updated by the script?

Hi,

I think I need to find out more before I can help.

Does this member still have a positive number of points reported?

Is this member in a different usergroup?

Where is it where points aren't being considered (posting, chatting, submitting, a combination, …)?

Points are calculated on-the-fly from a number of information sources, including the post count. Submissions trigger gift point transactions, and the sum total of these is taken into account in the on-the-fly calculation. Ranks are updated for a member whenever that member posts on the forum.

Hi Chris,

He still has positive points.

He is in the same usergroup with a number of other people who are having no problem.

It seems that most points that do not get credited are posting points in the forum.

Since I posted last, his points have increased, but they are not keeping up with his posts. It is not a major issue, and I will keep track of it closely over the next few days to see if it catches up.

When you say points are calculated on-the-fly, are you referring to in real time? That is definitely not happening. They do seem to jump from time to time and almost catch up to where they should be, so I thought maybe there was some lag in the script.

Yes. I'm very surprised if point counts jump, and I'd have to guess some kind of cacheing may be involved. The side_personal_stats block has a 15 minute update, so that can explain a 15 minute lag for the tally viewed in that block. However, the tallies shown on points profile pages and in the forum-username-hover should not be cached at all; I wonder if the points profile pages are somehow getting cached by web browsers.
Could you confirm where you're viewing the point tallies?

It's worth pointing out that OCF allows different forums to specify whether posts in them affect post count. This could account for some confusion.

Your response made me go back and check several member's points. Posts are not getting credited, and several of the members who post news daily have not been credited since 6 march or 9 march. Not even my points as admin are getiing posted correctly.

It seems as though these get updated on occasion however. I am wondering if this is a server caching thing?

Your last sentence is unclear to me. If I have the point count per post set in the usergroup at 5, are you saying that different forums may be set to allow points, and others to credit? If that is the case, maybe I need to go look at the categories and forums I have set up. Maybe that is where my error is?

Thanks for all this help, Chris.

I hope I am right about what you meant, I went and made sure that the "Incremental Post" was set the way I wanted, and it is...the only forums that do not get points are the ones dealing with support issues.

Hi,

I made a post here and my points went up:
The TrustServe Community - Forum

I made a post in here and they did not:
The TrustServe Community - Forum

So that tells me that the 'Sandbox' forum doesn't have post counts enabled.

Point updates were instant, except in my login box (personal stats block).

Could you provide me a link to the member profile of the member who is having points trouble?

Hi Chris,

You are correct. I do not have "incremental points" enabled for the sand box, support, or bug reports.

I just logged in using the su function, and the member seems to get posting points immediately, but he is not getting per day points, or topic submission points.

The link to his profile is:

The TrustServe Community - A Member's Community

I appreciate all your work over such an insignificant issue.

Hi,

(Very nice forum community btw - forgot to mention that last night)

I'm not seeing a bug here. There are no points for submitting a topic as such, and I think points-per-day is probably set to zero on your site.

Thanks, Chris.

I am so sorry to have wasted your time.

I thought I set points in each user group to 5 for posts, and 1 per day, but I will re-check that.

The reason I thought that points were given for posting a new topic is that they show up in the points history. Was that possibly for the news/blog? We don't use that any more…confusing to new users.

Thanks for the compliment. I am enjoying this community. We are having some growing pains, but for the most part everyone behaves well.

Thank you, again, for coming to the site. It is greatly appreciated.

Don't think twice about it.

Could you copy&paste an example line? It may be I'm forgetting something - I have to admit I have recently got to the point where even I can't remember all the features ;).
