How do you add custom items to the point store?
I'm considering "selling" my next RPG via points…

Coming Soon: Syntyx Community (http://syntyx.net)

As we've said several times before, custom items can be added if you can program PHP, by adding a hook in /sources/hooks/modules/pointstore :).

That's what I want to know how to do! How do you add a hook?

Unfortunately it's self-explicative if you know PHP, and you need to know PHP to do it. You add a hook by taking the format of the existing hooks and replicating it with appropriate new PHP code.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

PHP is not that hard.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Ahh, php looks easy. LOL, I notice when I was looking at banners.php it says SILLY_INPUT. That's kinda funny.

so, anything beggining with $ is a variable, right?
How do you initialise a variable?

EDIT: Oh I got it! You inititalise it the same way as in Game Maker! If php is similar enough, I'll have no trouble making addons and stuff! I might make some kind of battle game, where the champion has an award diplayed along with the faces next to their posts…

If you don't know PHP, in my personal opinion, I would recommend not fooling around with it if you have absolutely no clue as to what you're doing. With all do respect, and I don't mean to takeover staff positions, but this is not a PHP learning site. For tutorials on coding in PHP, you could refer to many different books, most likely all available in your area at a Library near you. :)

We're fine with members of the community helping each other out learning PHP (and other stuff) in the general forums here, but we can't be of much assistance.

Personally, I found PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor a great help when teaching myself PHP. :)

So is there likely to be some kind of patch or mod where we can add items to the store?

Flagrant text or a banner aint much of a choice or incentive to gather points. It's good that downloads can be given a points price - daft that they have to be in 2 different sections

It is quite a challenge to come up with some way to add any abstract object to a store in a user-friendly fashion, but there might be something in the next release.
