Is anyone podcasting with ocPortal?  I know the news and blog articles can be syndicated, but I'm wondering how that would work with podcast?  Since the podcast would be a media file normally it would go in a gallery, but since I don't see anyway of syndicating anything other than news and blog articles, I'm assuming need to be an attachment to the news article it represents.  So if it was an attachment can that attachment be syndicated and automatically delivered to a user's mobile device, or will they need to visit the web site and stream the podcast?

Hi,

Galleries can handle podcasts.

Actually, I have not tested it for years, and just found it did not work right. So I have fixed it up on your site. It's one of these things we added as an unofficial feature, I'll make it official now.

I'm adding this to the docs…

ocPortal RSS complies with Apple's podcast format.
The podcast URL for a gallery is:
http://baseurl/backend.php?mode=galleries&filter=galleryname&type=rss&itunes=1
Reply baseurl and galleryname as appropriate.

Note that the default advertised Atom feed will not work. Only RSS is supported by iTunes, and only the RSS feed is given the extra meta-data required. The &itunes=1 marker also tells ocPortal to supply an iTunes-friendly feed.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
