In most forums scripts we used , we used to use P.Ms ( Personal or Private Masseges ) as a contact method between users , but here in OC Portal it is different .
So What is a personal topic ?
What is the difference between Personal topic and Personal Massege here in OC software ?

None.

However, with ocP's Personal Topics you can choose to have them run in a thread. This is useful when you are collabarating with someone, on a feature for example, one-on-one, and don't want other users to interrupt the flow of ideas.

Get the idea … ?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

A Personal Topic is pretty much the same as a personal message, except it looks like a regular forum topic and it isn't publicly viewable.

Personal Topic = Personal Message x2.5.

Personal Message System:

1.) Allows you to send or received messages from other forum users.

2.) Depending on permissions and such, you may be able to send out mass P.M's.

3.) Many P.M. systems allow for reporting of P.M's.

4.) More advanced P.M's may allow inviting multiple users to share in the same topic, however most PM systems are designed more or less to mimic emailing.

Personal Topic System:

1.) Uses the awesome OCF forum system as it's base, giving the personal topic the look and feel of a forum thread, including operating the same way and having the same features and functions and look.

2.) Allows for all the features of a P.M. system, including reporting and receiving /sending topics to each other. Sending out a Personal Topic to a lot of members works differently however….

3.) Because the PT system is using OCF as it's base, you can think of Personal Topics simply as a private forum for your use. Your personal topics then are like you own private threads, that only you, and those you invite to those threads, can see.

4.) You are able to invite as many people as you want to a Personal Topic, giving it a similar function to mass P.M'ing, however with a personal topic everyone see's and share's in one thread instead of multiple PM's. Therefore everyone invited to that PT can see what each other has writen and respond. You can of course start individual PT's with other members if you desire.

5.) Instead of reporting the PT (which you can do) you can also simply invite a moderator or site administrator.

6.) Did I mention it has all the functions of a forum post? Including uploading attachments and so forth?

7.) You can use the PT system to whisper to another member(s) within a thread. A whisper is a personal topic that takes place within a public topic. It is marked as such and only you and the one(s) you are whispering to can see the whisper. Or you can just quote the post in a new personal topic. I believe this is a feature that you can turn on or off so to speak, but could be wrong.

If you cannot already tell, I think that the PT system here if far superior to a PM system. To me, having private exchanges for a community is best done in a forum-like setting instead of in an email-like setting that a PM system uses. However you may disagree lol. All I can say is that after having gotten used to the PT system, I find the PM system boring and outdated and restrictive *shrugs*.
