I have the main_multi_content block on the front page which includes the 'Add' link so that people can reach the Image Galleries catalog. When clicking on the 'Add" link, the member is taken to the "add catalogue entry" screen which displays items which are read-only access:

If they select one of the items that they do not have access to, they will get a screen like the following with the catalog category greyed out but it seems they should never even see this screen:

If they enter through the Content Management zone menu, they properly see their options:

This is the permissions table for the catalog. Note that the user has only view permission:

It seems to me that this creates confusion for the user - they should only be shown options which they will be allowed to edit/create.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

More posts like this I can live with.

Report was succinct, supported by explanatory screencaps, and the response was equally to the point!

Thanks to the two of you for a 'template' for future reports!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
