Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

*sigh*

OK, you download the new version, get to the force-upgrade page… and it doesn't accept the password you have written down in your notebook of passwords…?

Can still enter the site (throwing up near continuous errors at mo though, probably because halfway through upgrading). Evidently I'm still logged in - but where the heck is my password, or the means to change it?

Mmm, there's A password in there but it's purely numbers,  which I wouldn't use - and doesn't work anyway.

I could try logging out and then seeing if the 'forgot password' thingy works - but the script is so unstable I suspect I'd just 'an error has occurred' message.

Surely there's somewhere in this script someone already logged in can change their password?

OK, after a long series of guesses, managed to find the password.

Kewl.

But first it also demanded my FTP assword (why?) and then delcared my path was not valid.

Excuse me but why did I spend about an hour uploading all the files like the instructions said, just to give this page details on how to FTP it all again?

For that matter, why does it need my FTP password just to clear the cache/s?

It's saying something about the location of the "installer", what installer, it was just a zip full of files in directories?

??????

But I can't just ignore this step as it's throwing even more errors than before. I'm sick to death of seeing "An error has occurred".

 :(

Ah never mind. This upgrade was the thing's last chance.

The feature list is impressive, the service/support is pretty good but the performance and usability just aren't there. Let me know if there's an unbranded version 6.

Because I give up, I really do.

You don't need to upload the files, just feed it the url of the update file on ocp's news page.
Works fine, and it's really fast.

3.1 runs a lot faster as well.
Usability might take a bit of getting used to (what doesn't?) but it's well worth the effort. Once you get it going, this script works like a dream.

When you installed ocPortal, it asks you for two passwords. One for the admin account (which is the one I guess you were trying to use), and one for maintenance purposes — i.e. upgrades. This is the password which you should've used.

We also have a tutorial that steps through ways to reset the password.
