Need some help dotting the T's and crossing the I's...

OK. I'm sure this has been asked a bazillion times, but I either didn't see the right question in a forum search, or I didn't see the answer.

I'm running version 5.0.1. I'm still in the setup process. I want to make the entire OCP a paid subscription only. Here's what I'm looking for in a flow:

Front Page -> Log In/Sign Up. (No internal material showing or accessible - No non-member content other than Signing In or Up)
-Sign Up -> PayPal -> Access to Restricted areas
-Log In -> Direct access to Restricted areas with current paid Subscription

I *think* I've set up the PayPal info. I'm not offering any products to sell other than a subscription to premium content. I *think* I've set up the usergroups. Hard to test when things aren't quite right yet.

But when I sign out of admin and go back to the front page (like a new viewer) it lets me sign up as a regular member without paying (do not want this). How do I connect the dots to make initial signup a subscription signup?

What's been suggested in the past is guests and members have very little access to the site. Then you can set a subscription group and set access to all the other things to that group only.

I don't think you can have it so when they subscribe they also register as well. Registration comes first and then have them subscribe. But you can easily set the current guest and member group to have little access.

Thanks. That helps.

My next question is - How do you get from "Hi, I've joined your site and I'm sitting in the waiting room" to "I want to pay you so I can browse all your wonderful content"?

I think I'm missing a key ingredient here. I can't figure out how to get to the actual subscribing section/page/code/link…. whatever action it takes to get there.

I've set up Super-Members as a subscription usergroup (I think), and set up the paypal details in the ecommerce section (even though I'm not running a storefront of products). But I can't see a way to get people to upgrade their membership to a paid subscription.

Any words of wisdom here?

You can create it so there's a welcome message for guests and a welcome for members. This was just asked recently how to change message viewing on the front page. I'll try and find it for you later on.

To have members activate their subscription, check out this tutorial on subscriptions:
