While setting up a copy of v8.1 for use as a sandbox site I used the import tool to try and import the news archive of the main site.  When i do I'm getting the message:

Code

Import of news_and_categories is skipped for now because it depends on ocf_members
to be completed. You should go back and re-import this once the dependency has been
satisfied.
Not to appear stupid, but what is this wanting me to do?

If you are stupid then so am I O_o .

Never used this feature before, but it reads to me like it might be expecting your test site to have the same members (that contributed the news entries) as your main site.

That's my stab at deciphering it anyway.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

I thought so as well, but I've already set up all the members from the main site

The import order matters, so before news_and_categories can be imported, ocf_members must be. Normally this should not be a problem because we ordered the list in a sensible order to start with, but if some error happened importing ocf_members that might have blocked it. What happens when you just try and import that on its own?

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I gotcha, and that makes perfect sense, so I went back and ran the importer again, this time importing the members.  Once i did that then it went off with out a hitch.
