little help with Ldap

Hello all!

I'm struggling to get ocportal & Ldap working.

i am using Microsoft Web Matrix to host ocportal; when i go into config then Member and forum options

i
enable Ldap etc but i still get the error :

LDAP has not been enabled in your configuration, or the PHP LDAP extension is not installed. You must configure LDAP in the “Forum and member options” category of the Configuration module (available under the Setup section of the Admin Zone) before you may use it. In order to use LDAP, you will need a working LDAP server with a POSIX (aka NIS) schema, or a Windows Active Directory server. If you do not know what this is, then you shouldn't be using LDAP – it is intended for providing unified authentication for corporate networks.

Any help is welcome

Thanks

Marc

The PHP LDAP extension does not seem to be available via Webmatrix, so you need to manually install it. To be honest, for a number of reasons you'll need to be an experienced system administrator to get LDAP working, as it's quite a complex technology.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
