There are some tools that I'd like to use from vBulletin that are not part of ocPortal. Since ocp can use vBulletin, I'm thinking about using the best of both worlds. Is there a tool to port the users over from OCF to vBulletin forum?

We don't provide one, and I haven't heard of one elsewhere, but you should try asking the developers of vBulletin, because if anyone has one it'll be them. :)

If you don't mind me asking, to which tools do you refer?

The members list has multiple choice profile fields, and there is a hack that provides a user registry system that allows a user lookup by profile fields, and a locator by distance based on location.

Also, I'm thinking of using switching back to using the vBulletin calendar because it allows me to have Sunday as the first day of the week. It's been very confusing for my users to quickly tell when we're meeting. It's also been a sticking point with others that I've tried to convert to ocPortal.

My goal is to have a site that promotes the RP gaming community in my area by facilitating face-to-face meet ups, user initiated events, reminders, and the above mentioned locator. ocPortal provided a few of the features I needed, and vBulletin provided a few of the features I needed. Drupal has "CivicSpace", but my attempts at configuring that one has been less than desirable.

I'll check with the vBulletin community as you suggest, but I don't like to check with the folks over at vBulletin because (to put it nicely) their abrasive attitude rubs me the wrong way. But that's another topic.

Although I can't answer your question, I can understand your feelings about vB.  I've checked out their forums from time-to-time and, despite having an excellent product, they really have what I'd term an 'arrogant' perspective on the marketplace.  Pehaps if there is such a tool then perhaps Amichan would be willing to host it on her new ocPower forum.

If you're asking around for people to write a converter, you can mention that since there is already a vB -> ocPortal importer, it will be easier to write, because you won't be starting from scratch. It's mostly a matter of reversing what the existing importer does (taking note of exceptions which may crop up).

Well I could host it and I have no problem with that.
I will put it in my downloads section when I get that part up and running.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Full vBulletin version has so many features that can make you go nuts, especially when you're setting everything up. It took me like 3 full days to set up like 4 forum sections, permissions for those and some overall permissions. But ACP is soo complex, makes you go nuts.

It is a great piece of forum software, but is one of the most complex out there. I prefer SMF and IPB ;)

Your the first person I heard say that.
When I used the trial of vbulletin it did not have enough features and did not do what I wanted.
I have a friend who switched from vbulletin to IPB and she said ipb is harder to use and has to much stuff in the admin cp.
Well from what I can see it has a lot more. there are several tabs on the top and several featues for ipb.
For me it has the most features and I litterally know lots of sites that make skins and mods for it.
One of my favorite skin makers closed down not to long ago I was very disapointed as I had a lot of skins from there and was still going to get some more.

Well, i was working on a vB like 2 months ago and i couldnt concentrate with so much complexity before my eyes. I mean, i spend like an hour or so setting up  most important stuff that makes the forum work and look the way you want (First time config).

And i got IPB running in like half an hour after spending 2 hours uploading files, so yea, vB has some cool features that you can get for IPB as Mods but IPB is easier to use and understand ;)

Hmm I guess web software comes easy to me. I set up 20 different forums in one day just as a test.
I will admin ipb is easier them most and one of my favorite forums.
I used smf back when it was called yabb hardly used it after that though.

McStarken and amichan, how would you say IPB and vBulletin compare to OCF (our forum system)? :)

Ok, vBulletin and IPB are paid and have lots of features, but what they dont have is instant website integration like ocF has with ocP.

ocF has many features as default that both vB and IPB dont have, and the only way you can get those features is thru mods. Mods that need you to code somem stuff in order to work perfectly.

Both vB and IPB cant integrate to your website entirely, while ocF integrates with ocP perfectly, easily and fast.

Also, what i like the most is that you have all user profile configuration options at hand on every single forum section. You can edit your signature, avatar, title etc fast and in an easy way.

One last important thing, its easy to set up and use (ocF)

Well neither ipb or vb have personal topics as far as I know.
IPB has rich text editor like the ocf wysiwyg editor for ocf but does not work in opera and does not come with a spell check.
The bar at the top of OCF that has your avatar in it is a mod for IPB.
Hide had is also a mod that has to be installed seperately unlike ocf that comes with it already there.
OCF has a whisper which neither of the other 2 have.
OCF's quick reply shows smilies which needs a mod to do the same with IPB.

IPB how ever does have some nice features in that it tells you where people are at in the online now screen, which ocf does not have as far as I know.

OCF does come with forums set up by default, which is nice, even though the default permissions had to be changed for me so was not much of a time saver but was nice and no other forum that I know of does that for you well most just have one.

One thing I am very impressed about with ocp/ocf is it does not even take up that much cpu cycles to run it.
IPB takes up more, not sure about vb.
