I have received a "post liked by someone" notification that contains the post title in the email subject line (and a link in the email body), i.e:
Notification: Your content (Quick reply - Make post button not working on ocportal.com) was liked by someone‏

But other notifications (received after the above one) are coming through in the old style with just the word post, i.e.
Notification: Your content (post) was liked by someone

Almost certainly the second case is a post with no title, whilst the first case is the first post in the topic so will always have a title.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

That's definitely the situation, and the logic makes sense, but it just doesn't feel right.

For posts without a title I think something like:
Your content (in bla bla bla) was liked by someone‏
or
Your content (in topic bla bla bla) was liked by someone‏
would feel better. What do other people think?

I don't disagree, but that's slightly easier said than done – it means coding in an understanding of forum topic structure, to a separate subsystem. Given the full post is embedded into the actual e-mail, I'm not sure breaking the layering would be worth the time to do it in a neat way.

I suppose it is slightly frictiony to have to open the email when you get an alert, so feel free to add to the tracker, I've no objection to it getting done – but it just won't be considered a bug.

That's a surprise O_o .

If its non-trivial, then its definitely not worth the effort.

That's fair enough. Its just perception. What you have now is perfectly logical.

It's somewhere between non-trivial and trivial. The feedback system can lookup content and content titles, but not know how it is actually structured. However I just checked and we already coded in a special case for facebook syndication, so I copied that for the likes. Did it just work?
