What is its function . . .?

I've tried using the 'Notes' feature in the Adminzone, but nothing I enter in there 'stays' in there.

So, can a member of the team please explain to me what the function is meant to do, and if it is meant to be an idiots guide' help, how to use it? If 'notes' entered in there disappear when leaving the page, what use is it as a sort of 'crib-sheet'?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Have you tried holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift and refreshing to clear your caches? That might make the note turn up.

If not, could you see what's in your long_values database table? If the note has been successfully stored, there should be a note_text_admin_notes row.

Strange - The notes do not seem to stay in place on my website either, even after doing what Philip had stated.

Maybe this is a bug? :O

ocp2_long_values is empty. Absolutely nothing in the database. Obviously the 'notes' aren't being recorded.

Seems pointless clearing the cache when there isn't anything to clear.

Any further ideas, Philip?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Thanks.

That 'Thanks' above was a bit too premature. Nothing has changed. Notes still not being saved. Moving away from the Admin Zone clears the notes from the window. Clearing the 'block cache' was not do-able. Couldn't find it. But did the next best thing and cleared ALL the caches, (Ctrl+Alt+Shft), but that didn't do anything for me either.

Next steps, please?

Please visit the 'ocPortal cleanup tools' under the 'Tools' section of the Admin Zone.

The ctrl+alt+shift trick won't actually clear all caches, only the common ones. In this case, the block cache emptying cleanup tool will also cleanup the block cache profiles as well as the block cached content, which is required as the cache profile was incorrect for this block.

Working for me too, thanks.

Made one small change (not officially recommended, of course) to BLOCK_MAIN_STAFF_CHECKLIST.tpl, and renamed the 'Edit' button to 'Add Note'. I am a simple soul and I need all the help I can get, and 'Edit' didn't do it for me!

P.S.: A phenomenon that has been happening since 3.0.17. When an 'emoticon' is added to the end of a 'Quick reply' post the screen scrolls to the top of the page and the 'Quick reply' box show up empty. User has to hit the 'back' arrow for the original entry to show again. This happens here in this Forum and on my site as well. BTW, using IE7.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I remember that problem on mine but that was not 3.0.17 it was on here and long before that came out.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

This problem sounds like a Javascript error is happening, but we haven't been able to reproduce it. I think you'll be getting a Javascript-error icon in the bottom-left of your browser after clicking the emoticon – we may be able to proceed further with a screenshot of the error reported when clicking on that icon.

well for me 3.0.17 stopped doing it so I can not show you the screen shot.

Let me see if I can reproduce the prob - hopefully being able to provide a screencap if it happens . . .

 :'(

Nope . . . the problem reproduced itself, but no Javascript error was reported.

If I am able to 'capture' an error message elsewhere I will post it in this thread. Until then I guess you can close this one down!

 :'(

P.S. Did it with the second emoticon as well . . .

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
