When I downloaded my new install of ocP, I choose the no Forum and no Guests option.

I am checking out the guestbook page which, not surprisingly has no commenting box. If I add a MAIN COMMENTS BLOCK, I should be able to use it as a guest book even without the forum, shouldn't I?

Just a verification needed here.

If the ocP forum system is not included in the basic installation configuration you will not have access to the built-in ocPortal Guestbook.

Even though I see a Guestbook page included - when I try to add a block for commenting on that page that I can use as the Guestbook I am unable to get any response when I "save" it. The same goes for the Feedback page which comes up when you click on LEAVE FEEDBACK link in the Footer.

That's correct. The feedback system (guestbook, comment topics, …) stores on a forum, so if there's none it won't work. We should document that better.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
