Well-settled

I'm the Administrator and when I invite people to join my site it appairs that the emails go out, but later I get an email with this error:
[removed stack trace for privacy - Chris]
The error is telling me that there is no invited language file, but there is one.
it is as follows:

"Invitations are currently required in order to join the site. The e-mail address given has not been invited, or has already joined since being invited."

I have 2 questions
1) how do I fix this problem
2) How do I know if the people that I sent invites to get them?
Some say they have and some say they never got it. If I need to check with everyone to see if they get the invite, it really defeats the purpose of the invite.

Also the No Invite text say that the email address has not been invited but they have been invited.

Is this error happening when someone tries to join?

If so, how do I know who is getting rejected?

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Hotfix I just made :).

2) How do I know if the people that I sent invites to get them?

/adminzone/?page=admin_emaillog shows all emails that have gone out.

Some say they have and some say they never got it. If I need to check with everyone to see if they get the invite, it really defeats the purpose of the invite.

Such is email :(. Might be worth joining in in View topic: Emails to hotmail and outlook accounts not being received - ocPortal.com

Also the No Invite text say that the email address has not been invited but they have been invited.

Either it's a typo, or they already joined once. I've made it so the hotfix separates out the two different situations so it is clearer. You can only use an invite once, otherwise users could create an account using it, change that to a different email, then create another, and so on.

Is this error happening when someone tries to join?

I think it was in the background, not visible, but I'm not 100% sure.

Chris,

Thank you for removing the trace stack.

Q: the reference to "bellsouth.net", would that help me in determining which email it is?

Again Thank you for all your help and a great Software, I love ocPortal!

I think you're asking me how to locate the sent email in the admin_emaillog module. I don't have any particular tips other than to send it then immediately go check – otherwise yes there'd be a lot of browsing through.

I suppose you could search the database manually using phpMyAdmin, but you'd need to be comfortable with SQL.

Chris,

I'm sorry, I did not clearly ask the question.

In the stack trace it started with this: "An error occurred at:
"......snippet=invite_missing&name=xxx%40xxx&filtered......"

Would the "bellsouth.net" be giving me a clue as to who I sent the email too?

I'm just wondering? All I need is a yes or no.

I’m also thinking that this could be someone just trying to join my site, and I have not invited them to join. If that is the case, I’m alright with that, as it gives me another layer of protection to my website.

Thank you for all you help.

Robert W

"this could be someone just trying to join my site" yes

%40 means "@" so you can see the email address in that error message, which is why I censored what you posted before. I will censor your last post also.

Boy!

I stripped it down and still left information exposed.

Thanks again,

It's URL-encoded in this case, 40 in hexadecimal in the ASCII table Ascii Table - ASCII character codes and html, octal, hex and decimal chart conversion
