In my latest installation of ocPortal, I used the Gallery oriented site option and have no members except admin and TEST unless I add them myself. I also have no forum. So by having no forum installed I have chosen without my realization, until now, that there is no functional public comment or public feedback capability. Am I right?

Can I easily change this if I want?

I do see in the footer a feedback link which takes me to a 'LEAVE FEEDBACK' page without any comment block and no EDIT THIS PAGE button/link.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I go to look at ADMIN ZONE and click on PAGES (Comcode pages), to look if there is a FEEDBACK PAGE to edit there, I get a message that says:
*function ocp()
{
    echo
"Example PHP syntax highlighting";
}
*
I am seeking an answer to the first part of this thread's subject but may have found a little bug? Within the last few days I had upgraded from 9.0.16 to 9.0.17
Hi,
I'm going to tackle this in two parts.
Part 1 - the forum.
The forum is indeed needed for any kind of commenting scenario. You can easily go and install the ocf_forum addon again and all should be fine.
Without ocf_forum, the feedback page is designed to revert to showing an email address link.
I did just find a small bug. If staff_messaging is installed, and ocf_forum is not, the email address link is missing yet no commenting block either. This is actually because staff_messaging depends on ocf_forum and we forgot to code up this dependency.
I suggest you just resolve by installing ocf_forum again, and choosing to not link to the forum zone and making that zone have no access permissions for any usergroup.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
Is there a tutorial or thread on installing modules somewhere?
Just go to Admin Zone > Structure > Addons, and click the green plus by the addon, then follow instructions.
Does the new patch 9.0.18 contain the little hot fix that addresses problem (#2) or do I apply the hot fix also.
9.0.18 includes it. As a rule, any new patch release will include all prior fixes, generally lots more than we bothered to make hot-fixes for :).
